Thoughts on this Unheated Montana Sapphire???

Did you 'win' with that 2ct? ABSOLUTELY! If I got that gem from a $100 piece of rough I would be dancing in the streets! That said, there is pretty serious zoning in it and zoned rough can yield poor results, obviously you are a very good cutter (I looked at other stones on your site, very impressive!), but most cutters wouldn't be able to get that kind of gem out of that piece of rough.

The stone I posted was sold some time ago, but it didn't have zoning. I think what you were seeing were some facets in the photo reflecting more light than others.

Thanks for clarifying Gene! I'd love to see a video of it!

I also want to make a note about 'Montana Sapphires'

People have started to call everything that is teal or close to teal Montana.

Although American style cutting has it's look (often called Precision cutting by Americans), it's possible for any decent cutter to cut with that style of cutting.

SO: Unless you are buying from someone who is buying the rough from miners and has a long trusted history in the trade (Someone like Gene from Precision Gem), you may want to insist on a GIA origin report to be sure you are getting what you are paying for!
