All three stones are from Tan. When I saw this spinel, I had to have it, and it kept calling me. I loved the tone and color combo. The chrysoberyl pair were an impulse purchase, and I loved the cutting, color and luster. They are very bright stones.

More pics, but in more direct sunlight. The violet spinel is a native cut, but the crown is very high, and the facets are nice and chunky, and the light just dances in the stone. There is a bubble inclusion on the bottom of the stone. There is a small window, but it would close up in a setting. It also has some pink flashes.

I also picked up a small 1.3 carat chrysoberyl princess cut from Tan. it's also very bright and kind of minty. Love the cutting.

Since PS shrinks all my pics so much, here is the super up close shot of the spinel. The bubble is visible at the five o'clock.

I took this photo the other day on a rainy day in a very dim room with some diffused natural light. The stone goes more purple in incandescent lighting.

WOW what beautiful stones and CLOSE - UPS !!!!! :cheeky:  :cheeky:
Those Chrysoberyl look like tiny dahlia or chrysanthemums !!!!
I Love the princess cut ~ minty goodness.....
That blue spinal is lovely, it's so cool to see the close up with the bubble inclusion !!!!

I really like that combination of colors. Reminds me of FlyGirl's pearl and oh shoot the two green stones she is going to put with it. Can't remember what they are at the moment.

I love the color combination, and the details in your photos are amazing!

What are you planning to do with the princess cut? It's so unusual to see that cut in a chrysoberyl, setting it could be a really fun project.

Congratulations on the gorgeous stones and your 10K benchmark! Its nice that you should be recognized. I for one really appreciate your posts. Let there be at least 10K more!

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

I didn't expect you to be doing unusual colour combos as you seem to be a center coloured stoner with lots of diamond bling on the side kind of gal, but this is a nice departure from your usual.

They're all really pretty TL-I like the cut and color on the spinel a lot!

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

Love the combination. TL, do you have the vendor shots of the pair? I'd love to see how they compare. Thanks!

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I sent the non-uploaded pictures to my friend, and she said that PS killed the color upon uploading. She said the color was much more vibrant in the original images *sigh*.

Here are the video stills of the gems.

The spinel is a color shifter, so it looks a little more purple under the lighting it was filmed in, which I presume is fluorescent.

Hmmm, is there more saturation of color if I crop way way down and do a png file?

The spinel is beautiful!!!

Is it only me or Tan's stones do usually look better in irl photos posted here than in the video on his site?

Thanks Atwater.

Oh, I think it depends. I've had a about four or five stones I've returned to him (no hassles) where the video was more complimentary, but overall, my experience with Tan has been superlative, and this is coming from someone that returns more stones to vendors than I care to remember. Four or five stones out of the zillion I've bought from him so far is a great track record for me.

Beautiful spinel, TL! As I am flipping through the Yavorsky book, it seems some of your spinels belong in there.

Chrysoberyls are pretty and very nicely cut.

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

Thanks Crasru,
That's a huge compliment. I will say that book is very helpful, and has raised my standards for what to look out for in spinels. There is one common characteristic on all the spinels in that book too. ;))

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

Love that color combo!!! The Spinal has great color saturation!!! Gorgeous!!!

Re: Three carat violet blue spinel and 2.5 cttw chrysoberyl

TL,

Since I did buy and read Yavorsky's book, is there any stone there similar to this spinel?
Color-wise?

Daylight color: page 126, the spinel all the way to the right.

Indoor color: page 110, the lavender 7.02 ct.
