I'm in sort of a dilemna in trying to decide how to set up a three-stone engagement ring. I'm between two set-ups?

Moissanite as the center stone; 2 blue sapphires for the side stones

Blue sapphire for the center stone (light or dark); 2 moissanite as the side stones

If anyone has examples of their set ups so I can perhaps visualize it better, that would be awesome. I'm having a tough time trying to decide between one or the other =)

Mmm.. meant shiny white stone in the center then lol.. Yeah, I think that's what first got me liking those style of rings was Monica's on friends =)

I like the opposite - with the sapphire in the center. I think the blueness of the sapphire draws the eye more than the whiteness of the diamond, especially since it contrasts with the metal more, no matter what color of metal you have, and if you have sapphire side stones then the focus is split to either side of the diamond and the whole ring has less of an impact because the eye is moving all over trying to rationalize what it sees. A pop of blue in the middle with white accents is the way to go!

(I'm on my phone right now so I can't link to pics of my ring but if you lookat my topics I've started you'll find them.)

I'd be concerned the sapphire side stones would make the white center stone look smaller.

I know sapphire halos make white diamond center stones look smaller.

I saw this ring in person and it is pretty spectacular.

From a practical standpoint, I'm guessing finding a single high quality blue sapphire for the center will be easier than finding two matching ones for the sides. Just a thought, it really only depends on what you want. Good luck!

If it were me, I'd skip the "white stones" all together. Especially for an e-ring! Three stone sapphire would be nice. You could do all three blue, or blue flanked by yellow.

If not, I'd def make the center stone sapphire since it's the "most important" one. Or even just a sapphire solitaire.

Is this a "forever" ring, an additional one to wear sometimes, or a someday-upgrade ring? If the latter, it depends also what you want to upgrade to. Would you want to keep the setting and upgrade/replace center stone (in which place, go for sapphire sides) or keep the center stone and upgrade/replace the setting (in which case, go for sapphire center).

It all depends on the size you are looking for. If the sapphires are around 0.4 ct or less, those are not to difficult to source side stones for. In fact, I'd probably have the jeweller source them for me. I think either way (sapphire sides or sapphire center) is fine. A slightly different look though. I recall one poster who had 2 rings where one had white sides and a blue sapphire, and one had blue sides with a white center stone. Can anyone find it?

I'd like something unusual on the sides personally: a Minty color, perhaps? or a pale gray? you could do pinks, greens, yellows... really anything! Even a bright orange might look stunning.

Not sure how wearable that is for you, but blue and white just has never really done it for me.

Also, if you'd like to explore the options of different colored sidestones with a sapphire centerstone, I will be happy to photoshop some for you so you can take a look :) Just let me know what combinations you'd like to see!
