Hi, this ring was my 30th birthday present, almost nine years ago, from my family. My parents, sister, and brother-in-law all gave me vouchers and I went to Tiffany in London and chose it. Unusually for me, I can't for the life of me remember how much it cost.
It's 18k, and it's an Elsa Peretti design. Tiffany no longer carries it, but the necklaces with gold initial pendants in script have some letters that look like this teardrop design, and I've considered getting one to go with it. There is also a Peretti gold teardrop bangle, but it's huge on me and also outside my personal parameters regarding what I will pay for plain metal items.
Anyway, the reason I'm only posting the ring now is because it's always been way too big, and I've only just got it sized! (Cost $35 at Tiffany - not too bad and they've done a great job.) So I've barely worn it all these years.
When it was too big, the teardrop part really stood up, and caught on everything. I can't believe the difference that having the right size makes. The teardrop is now tamped down against my skin and the whole thing fits like a glove, like a piece of gold thread wrapped around my finger - that's how the design is supposed to look, in my opinion. It's only just a leading edge 5, so perhaps more like a 4 and three quarters. I'm getting so much renewed enjoyment out of it. When I was 29, the only jewellery I had was a couple of inherited things - a nice sapphire antique ring and an art deco style gold and diamond bracelet - but all the jewellery I could afford myself was some silver Tiffany items, which I loved and still love.
I chose this because I really wanted just one thing in Tiffany gold, and I couldn't believe I had just one Tiffany gold piece. We've come a long way since then, baby.
Enjoy the pix!
