Unless otherwise noted is it safe to assume sapphires from Tiffany's have been treated beyond just heat? I'd be ok with heat only, but not diffused and filled.

Their care booklet indicates that there can be diffusion and also clarity enhancement as well.

Quote from booklet
CORUNDUM
Yellow Sapphire
Heated and/or diffused to improve color and clarity. Infused with colorless substances to improve color and clarity.
Blue, Color Change, Colorless, Green, Orange, Padparadscha, Pink, Purple, Star, Ruby, and Ruby Star
Heated to improve color and clarity. Infused with colorless substances to improve color and clarity

Thanks TL. It almost reads like only the yellow sapphires are diffused. Am I reading that wrong?

It does, doesn't it?

Hmmmm, maybe a sales associate there can provide more detailed information.

Yeah I'll have to call them. This is actually a preloved ring I'm looking at. I'll post what I find out. Either way I'm not keen on the "filling of colorless substances" unless the are talking about oiled emerald.

How loved is preloved? Because if its over a certain age (I'm sure TL knows), then its likely not diffused.

Pretty recent. Within the last 5 years.

That's not a guarantee as stones can always be replaced in pre-loved rings. I thought it was directly from Tiffany. If not, I would really require an AGL report if you're buying it second hand, if its an expensive piece.

Since it is pre-loved, I would have the ring authenticated and the stone verified. The "problem" with pre-loved is that there is no way to know whether the stone was switched out some time in the past.

Yes, you are absolutely right, TL, excellent point! I guess I wasn't really thinking about the path that the preloved piece might have taken. Thanks for your reminder to be vigilant when considering used pieces and get them assessed by a lab. :))
