I'm thinking about selling my Tiffany & Co legacy sapphire ring. The sapphire is approximately 1.5 ct. The ring is size 6 with two sizing beads reducint the size to about 5 or 5.5. The sizing beads can be easily removed if you take it to Tiffany.

I have not figured out yet how to take good pictures and how to list it on Loupetroup.

I just wanted to know if there's interest.

Hi- I would be interested in your legacy sapphire. If you could post pictures that would be great. :appl:

I'm going to guess that the amount of interest will vary according to what the sapphire looks like (inky? Dark? Blue? Windowed? Etc), and what your asking price is. Can you upload pics here?

OK

Here's a picture 8-)

Looks pretty! What will your asking price be?

ANd since Tiffany historical does use treated sapphires it would help if you have any paperwork on it. Though I know Tiff's has a huge following on PS many will probably want to know what treatment was mentioned (if any...I don't think they verbally disclose just have a random disclaimer on line???)

I second this - since so many of their sapphires have some level of treatment, any info you have will really help out your sale. :))

Tiffany does not provide a certificate for colored stones. As I understand, Tiffany does not use any treatment on colored stones other than heat.

I'm not sure if it is allowed to discuss prices here. I will try to list it sometime next week.

This ring is for those who appreciate the Tiffany craftsmanship and are familiar with the Tiffany quality. Those who are concerned about the quality of Tiffany sapphires should not consider this ring. Unfortunately, Tiffany does not provide a certificate for colored stones.

If your main goal is to purchase a stone that comes with a certificate, please shop somewhere else. You'll most likely get what you want for a price cheaper than buying Tiffany jewellery.

nkc, just so you have your facts straight, colored gemstone "enhancements accepted by Tiffany & Co." as to corundum, including blue sapphire:

"Heated to improve color and clarity. Infused with colorless substances to improve color and clarity."

Thank you for the info. Since I'm not concerned about the treatments, I haven't done much research in this area. When I bought this ring, it wasn't for the stone. As you may know, Tiffany does not provide a certificate for colored stones. So, unfortunately, I cannot provide any info in this regard and will not spend any more time discussing this.

Again, those who have concerns about the sapphire treatment or Tiffany quality should not consider this ring. I have very limited time and will not be able to respond to this type of questions.

Sorry... Tiffany does not provide any info in this regard.

Re: Tiffany & Co Legacy Sapphire Ring

Okay ... I think what people are trying to say is that you'd probably get a higher price for it if you provided a cert, even if Tiffany's doesn't provide one at the time of original sale. AGL will do a gem brief with really basic info for $75 (I just got one for a ruby I never wear ... quick work, good communication). You don't *have* to provide it, obviously, but it would probably be financially worthwhile if you did if you're listing it on Loupe Troop or Diamond Bistro ... I think it probably matters less on eBay or the like.

P.S. - yes, it's totally okay to discuss pricing, direct sales vs. consignment, etc. I got some great advice back in the day when I posted a similar thread.

When people spend their hard earned money on a ring, it is prudent to show care and concern for any and all questions they may ask you and make the time. Surely you can understand this with so many fakes being sold online these days.

There are multiple ways to do this that ensures buyer's protection. Also, don't buy if you're not comfortable.
I have not listed it yet. When I do, I will include multiple pictures. I will answer what I think are reasonable questions. If the process becomes time consuming, I will gladly keep the ring and cancel my listing.

I agree with Elliot and Circe. While you may love the ring for what it is - a Tiff & Co Legacy ring, most people will be buying it both for the Tiffany name and because of the sapphire. Since it is well known that T&Co frequently uses treated stones, and there is a huge difference in value between a treated sapphire (if Be-treated, yours would likely be worth under $1k) and an unheated stone (yours would probably be worth upwards of $4k), it behooves you when it comes to selling to know treatment level and therefore the value. Hope that helps. :))

Thanks for the advice. I suggest you buy it directly from Tiffany and ask them to provide you with a certificate.

Thank you for letting me know that it is OK to discuss pricing here.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to provide a certificate.

As I understand from Circe, it is OK to discuss pricing here.
How much would you like to offer and where do you prefer me to list the ring (e-bay, Loupetroop, etc.) if the offer is acceptable to me?
It is also OK if you prefer to meet with me to see it in person.

Re: Tiffany & Co Legacy Sapphire Ring

Er ... I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression: I've generally gotten the impression people concretize the details one-on-one. But I've seen plenty of threads where people are like, "so I paid X retail ... what do you guys think is a realistic price to ask," or "how can I improve my selling strategy," or discussions of best places to sell, or best dealers to work with if you don't want the hassle of doing it yourself. I'm afraid I have no idea what the official board position is on negotiating on-site.

You're probably trying to sell this to the wrong audience. Pricescopers are an educated bunch, and especially over in Colored Stones, where sapphires and rubies are expensive and heavily treated. As Minou pointed out, the treatment of your sapphire can vastly change what the stone is worth.

There are people who are willing to buy the name and don't care about the treatment, but you're more likely to find them on ebay than on PS.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tiffany-Co-...84294754?pt=US_Fine_Rings&hash=item2ed784b762

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Excellent-T...43796309?pt=US_Fine_Rings&hash=item2596ccd555

If you got it tested, and your stone was untreated or just low heat, it would enhance the value of your sale. 99% of sapphires have been treated in some way, so an unheated sapphire is very rare. For now, everyone here should rightly assume that your stone is BE treated and worth only the look and name of the piece.

Also, I'd recommend listing a price that you want to get for it, instead of just angling for offers. I don't think negotiating is really done on PS, people are more likely to talk about price privately. So you should also put a listing up on LoupeTroop if you are actually going to sell it so people can contact you privately.

Good luck!

Those who believe to be the wrong audience should ignore this. Nobody is obligated to read this, comment or buy if they don't want to.

The reason for this post is to find out if there's any interest in buying the Tiffany legacy ring.
I appreciate all the replies I have received so far but I'm not interested in any advice, opinion or judgment at this point. If I need advice in the future, I will ask for it.
I will not be able to provide a certificate so please do not reply if you're not interested. If the certificate is important to you, please look for another ring/stone. If enough people are interested, I will list the ring. Thank you for your understanding.

I have a bad feeling about all your comments. I think you should stick to ebay. You have not even tried to be nice in any of your responses.

Ditto this. Kind of inflammatory, really.

I was initially interested in your ring as I'm in the market for something like this. But one needs to work - not only with a trusted product, but also with a trusted vendor. Ergo, you might want to try to meet your potential market half way.

But as it is - not interested, thanks. Hope you find someone who meets your terms - or who is at least able to guess what you want to sell it for! :wall:

I have not listed it yet. When I do, I will include multiple pictures. I will answer what I think are reasonable questions. If the process becomes time consuming, I will gladly keep the ring and cancel my listing.

I'm not, and I won't. Good luck to you for a quick sale!

Yep, count me out too - and probably the rest of the PS community. I say FB or ebay are your best bets.

I wouldn't want to have to deal with a seller like this on ebay, either.
