Tiffany setting vs HW / Cartier / Graff

Hi everyone - me and my fiancé are looking for engagement rings.

I've had a few looks around and it seems I'm quite into a round solitaire. Am looking at a size around 1.2ish or 1.3.

From the stores I have been to, it seems that Tiffany's setting is the best (for me). It shows the ring really well. I had a look at the cartier 1895 and I was surprised because I thought I would like that better than Tiffany's Classic setting.

I will most probably go to a reputable jeweller rather than say Tiffanys. I'm assuming they can do the same setting with the same effect (am I correct)?

I would like to know from all you experts out there:

What are your opinions on the Tiffany setting vs Harry Winston's round brilliant solitaire setting (4 double prongs) and cartiers 1895. If anyone knows about Graffs Paragon ring setting that would be great too!

Which is safer and more secure and which brings out the shine more?

Assuming the stone is cut well, the setting itself isn't going to really have THAT much of an impact on the "shine." Cut is king. Focus on the cut of the stone above all, and get the setting you most like the look of.

Personally, I prefer higher settings, and 6 prong settings because they're more secure and keep the round stone looking round. I think the only 6 prong you mention is the Tiffany setting, of which I have the Brian Gavin Diamonds Tapered version.

Personally, I would never pay for the actual brand name setting and a diamond from Cartier or Tiffany is going to cost you more than a great online vendor would charge. There are versions of all of the settings you mentioned by almost all of the online vendors that you'll read about here. And best of all, you're going to have assurance that the diamond is cut perfectly. The setting itself won't really affect the "shine" of the ring, it's really all about the cut quality of the diamond itself, as ame mentioned.

I am not familiar with the Harry Winston or Graff settings you mentioned, but if they don't have a similar setting in stock, many vendors can create a custom setting to be very similar and still not violate copyright.

I completely agree. Wouldn't pay extra either. I think the diamonds at stores like Tiffanys look superior because of the great lighting they have in there to be honest. After you step out its the cut that will matter but I thought setting would as well?

I prefer (from my quick research) the 6 prong setting as well. I would get this done at another jeweller as well rather than pay Tiffany for it.

Would love to hear other opinions though if anyone has more?
