I love that princess cut! and it looks absolutely lovely with your two beautiful bands....out of curiousity, do you happen to know the tcw or point size of the larger eternity band? it''s really really beautiful too - i like them all together!
Oh, I love to talk about the eternity band! It''s 3 ctw. I assume g-h. I''ve never enjoyed a ring more. Never lost a stone and wear it doing everything. People stop me all the time with comments.

I didn''t get a diamond until our 16 wedding anniversary. Then I guess I "discovered" them and, well, the rest if just hobby history.

I love that term "hobby history"! Your description of your rings made me smile and I''m totally with you on how an oval makes your hand look!

Very many congratulations on number 23, she''s a beauty.

Hey Everyone,

Our family has been in the grips of the bronchitis thing. We''ve been slowing getting better and to celebrate (ok, I made up a reason), I just had to go and start something new. I changed my rock... Yep, this time she''s a GIA certed princess, 1.5, D, SI2. (I think this must be trade #23? Oh golly, who''s counting?) Anyway, I thought I''d share my first pics this morning. I really need to get some better pictures, but for now... here''s my new little treasure.

Cheers,

JJ
Julia,

I''ve been tracking all of your shapes, sizes, etc. throughout PS and have really enjoyed seeing all of the photos and see you try each one! I think it''s absolutely WONDERFUL AND I think it''s awesome that your hubby has gotten involved, too. LOL. I do have some questions for you, though...and I am a complete NEWBIE. :)

Question 1: I notice that this is the same ring each time, just with different sizes/shapes/etc. How is this possible? What I mean is, is your ring just the kind that has the center stone''s setting separate from the rest of the ring so you can have any size or shape that you want? Or, is it possible to have other shapes put into ANY ring? I ask because I''ve just recently gotten engaged and decided on a 6x6mm pink sapphire for my center stone, but I also LOVE the idea of an oval, or maybe even a round? The thing is, I fell in the love with the setting before I ever knew what kind of center stone I wanted, and after looking at a number of other settings, I just never found one that had (almost) EVERYTHING that I wanted like this one does. (I''m going to try to post a photo of it so you can see what it is/what it looks like)

Question 2: I read waaaaaaaaay back in your first post EVER that where you got your ring from they have an upgrade policy that says you have to only spend a dollar more for your newer diamond. So my question is this: does that mean that if your first diamond cost, say, $1,000, you would have to spend $1,001 (at least) on your upgrade? Does this mean that you have to spend that much EVERY time? Or, does it mean that they will deduct the cost/price of your current center stone from the price of the upgrade and you pay the difference? And, if that''s the case, what is the trade-in percentage? I remember when thinking about getting a diamond the place where we actually got my ering from said that they have an upgrade policy, too, and that you''ll always get what you paid for your diamond when trading...as in, the diamond never loses value. Is this unique? Or no?

Question 3: If I were to change my center stone, what is the cost to have it remounted? If I got it re-set at the place where I purchased the setting, but the center stone wasn''t purchased through them, do you think that would drive the price higher? (The current center stone was not purchased through them. Fiance brought it to them when he was ready to purchase the ring and they set it).

PS I''m also putting this in a brand new topic, too, just to draw a bit more attention in case you don''t view this since it''s at the end of a long thread. Hope that''s okay??

Okay, thank you soo much for answering all of my questions!!!

Sincerely,
Rachel

Rachel,
No, I do not mind at all! I enjoy talking about it, (maybe too much!) I''m not as much of a pro as many of the ladies on this forum, but I''m street smart about my purchases, if that makes any sense. The reasons for my decisions have been driven by practicality, for the most part. I''ll try to answer your questions...here we go...
I love your picture, by the way!

My hubby bought my original ring as a simple setting, no side stones, basically a circle of yellow gold with a hole in the center. In this hole, he had picked out and had the store place in a head a nicely sized round, J, but dead as a door knob (not a great cut). (Bless his heart, he just knew I wanted big.) I thought it was great, until I started noticing it was the same color as my skin and didn''t sparkle like I always thought a diamond should. So, I started searching. Thus, opened Pandora''s box, so to speak.

My husband picked this place because of the excellent trade in policy. So, I decided to exercise my curiosity and use the policy. My goal was/is to find another rock that was better cut, bigger, different size, or different shape, for as little upgrade money involved as possible. Typically I start looking for a certain shape, or a certain color (usually on the online site) and narrow it down by not allowing the search engine to go below say SI2. It''s like a good game of checkers.

Sometimes my adventure has cost as little as 15 dollars. Sometimes thousands.

The ring itself (all my rings) was purchased at the same place. It is like most of the rings there, with a hole in it for almost any head that will fit. My ring can and has accomodated 1c up to 3 c--depending on the height of the head. It''s very cool. Nothing fancy. They do groan though, when I turn it in. I have been warned that it might fall apart some day. Hey, at that point, I''ll buy another one. Until then, I consider my benchman a true master. I am very impressed with their work. They always find a head that fits my new rock and get it in there very nicely.

2. The diamond never loses its value. I apply whatever I paid toward the new rock. The only rule is that the diamond or combination of diamonds be solitaires. (As in ering plus two earrings, or just ering, or ering, pendant, earrings,)...again, game of checkers.

3. Good question. I think I''d ask them directly. In these soft economic times, I think they''d find a way to make you happy or they know you won''t give them any repeat business. I would think jewelry businesses would thrive on repeat business.

Good luck and happy hunting. Remember, it''s supposed to be fun.
