Hi!

I'm processing a sale through LT and I'm wanting to do everything I can to make sure the ring gets safely to its happy new home.

The buyer very generously already offered me some pieces of advice, but I want to make sure I'm not neglecting anything. The ring will be put in a ring box, and taped to the bottom of a cardboard box. This cardboard box will heavily taped up, and then be put inside of a FedEx box (and bag?) and shipped like that FedEx 2 day shipping).

What should the contents be labelled as? Is it very costly to buy insurance? My buyer is paying shipping expenses and I don't want her to pay more than she has to.

Thanks for your help!!

PS - would it be impossible to use a FedEx drop box? It would save me about 30min of driving each way...

Don't use fed ex. Use registered mail.

Fed ex only covers jewelry up to 500 or 1k (can't remember which)

Thanks, whitewave.

Looking in some old threads, it looks like USPS might be a good option for me:

"I don't like USPS Registered Insured becuase it takes forever and I freak out the whole time. I'm just a nut. Anyway, if the value is under $1200 and it's a jewelry item (not loose diamond) then you can send it USPS Priority 2-3 day and insure it for $1200 which is their max. This is the way I send smaller items. For me Registered Insured takes almost 5-7 days to travel across the US...which is an additional 3-5 days I have for freaking out."

I'm sending a ring that is being sold for $1350 so insuring for $1200 seems like a valid option.

Obviously double check the info.... make sure
You have a tracking number

Yes! Good tips! And in Canada we have a signature upon receipt option, which I am certain would also be offered at USPS.
