Fishie-

I was asked constantly right after the engagement when the wedding would be. It does get frustrating, but I think people ask because a) they are genuinely interested in your plans or b) they think that date question is supposed to be asked or c) the date question makes for an easier exit from the conversation for everyone sometimes. Just tell them you aren''t sure yet until you pick a date.

And I know you have heard about my ring issues with white gold shared prongs.

I have not insured it yet, and so I religiously remove my ring for sleeping, showering, and hand-intensive activities like horseback riding and exercise. I don''t want to create a situation that I will later regret. After insurance? I don''t know if I will wear it more or not.

I use a red jar of jewelry cleaner called Connoisseur. It comes with a dip basket and a small soft brush to clean every little crevice. The cleaning solution rinses off in water and my ring gets really shiny and bright after a quick dip and a scrub.

I noticed on my BM thread that you had asked about the horsehair bracelet. It is sweet of you to remember that. I have yet to send the tail hair in. I thought I would be able to order some bracelets this summer, but I ended up signing an apartment lease with FI before the lease that I had expired. I''ve been paying two rents for June-August to avoid additional lease breaking fines. I may be able to get a bracelet order in this fall. I really miss my Taz, especially the way I could drape myself around his soft warm neck when I felt bad and just drink in his rich scent and let all my troubles melt away.

I am looking forward to seeing your ring pictures so much. I''ll keep checking in until one of you guys makes a post.

wellll........ I wear my ring 24/7 unless I am cleaning it. I know myself, and if I take it off too much I''ll just lose it. Safer on my hand than anywhere else. yeah, it gets dirty really fast but I just clean it as often as I can. I haven''t had any problems w/the ring catching on my hair or sheets.

ppl started asking us ''when'' immediately after we were engaged. I think it took us about 6mo to nail down the date (we knew we wanted april 06 but our site doesn''t let you book more than 365 days in advance)... and mostly ppl stopped bothering us when I started telling them, ''we''ll let you know when we know''..

good luck on planning and congrats!!

Flopkins,

I don''t think I''ve ever seen your ring. Do you have a link to it?

I know my ring is white gold, I don''t know if the prongs are platinum, though. I think I read somewhere, or maybe a co-worker told me, that the jars you can dip your ring in can possibly hurt your diamond. I don''t know where I heard that from, though.

I also think I remember the local jeweler who we were thinking of going with telling me that the tulip head is stronger than "normal" prongs, because they are essentially two prongs for each flower petal. I don''t know how true that is, either.

Still not sure about the size of the ring, either. This morning, it was loose. By lunch, it fit just right. Now, it''s spinning around again. With time, I''m sure I''ll get a feel as to whether this is the right size or not.

Your time is coming, girl.

What do you plan to do? Will you wear yours all the time? I don''t remember, but have you chosen your ring, or will it be a *surprise?*

hehehe...I was just kidding

I know when my time will come...well, actually not the time per say...but I do know that something needs to be taken care of before my time comes so for now I''m *relaxed*....ok, not really relaxed but patient!...hahaha.

I will wear my ring all the time!...probably will only take it off for cleaning it, exercising and going to the beach....and travelling to places where I don''t believe it''s safe to wear it!...

Mine will be a complete surprise!!

and I love it that way!

Last night I tried taking it off before bed, and I even set the box right beside my bed, but I just couldn''t seem to fall asleep. I took it out of the box, looked at it, closed the box again, and tried to fall asleep. I drifted off for a teeny little while, then I woke up because I rolled over, and I naturally felt for my ring, about freaked that it wasn''t there, then remembered where it was. I put it back on, and slept much better.

When I first got engaged several years ago LOL I wore my ring to bed but not in the shower. Now that I''m a sahm I wear my ring on most days but definitely not to bed or still not in the shower. I lost a diamond earring in the shower and since then (that was before engagement) I don''t wear any jewelry in the shower. Before bed I give my rings a good cleaning and then off to the box for night time

I became engaged in April and I was definitely annoyed by the barrage of "so when''s the date?" Like other people here, people were asking the next day. For a second I was unsure of myself, I had to ask my mom if most people knew the day they became engaged what day they were getting married. She just laughed and told me no, and to take my time. Judging from some people''s stories here we did set our date fairly soon, within one month. I feel your pain... part of me wanted to just make up a day so they''d be quiet for a while, I figured most of them wouldn''t notice later on when it was a different date

The ring... I have a platinum shared prong eternity style ring, and my jeweler said don''t worry about wearing it in the shower, to bed, etc. The biggest issue with my ring is stones potentially coming lose, but as long as I take it to my jeweler every 6 months for a cleaning/inspection, they''ll cover the cost of any lost stones. I DO have a pretty china limoges ring box I bought for my night stand to encourage me to take my ring off when I go to bed, and it worked, I love putting my ring in its pretty box at night. When I''m out of town or away my fiance I always wear it to bed because it makes me feel closer to him.

As for cleaning... gotta love the sharper image ultrasonic cleaner

I don''t wear my ring to bed or in the shower...or if I''m going to be doing something icky, I don''t want to risk it getting dirty or scratched. As far as the quizzing...there''s been some of it, but not too much since FI and I are in an unique situation, currently over seas with the Air Force.

DH2B and I got engaged last Valentine''s Day, so we have been engaged now for almost 18 months. We only set a date last week, and YES the date-setting questions have been rolling since day 1!! But I let them roll, as we are really happy being engaged for now. Mum says we''re like two little kids ''playing house'' :D Of course I would be M''s wife tomorrow, but we''re building a house and paying for 3 of them at the moment, and won''t be moving into our new one for another couple of months yet, so financially we can''t manage a wedding anyway. We''d always planned on a long engagement since we started building, because I''d rather do things comfortably and the way we want, than just scrape through a basic wedding if that''s all we can afford.

Which reminds me, I have to pay the deposit for the reception centre tomorrow. Ooooh it begins!!

Sk7rJen: Have you and Matt talked about a date yet?

How long are people *allowed* to go without doing that before people start aggressively asking about it? I''m just wondering because well, I don''t know how long Paul and I have before the questions start.

Also, do you guys wear your rings in the shower? Is that bad to do? I''ve been doing it, but when I washed my hair tonight and I got it caught in my hair and I all but freaked out over hurting it and then sending the diamond down the drain. Then I worried about the water damaging the metal, or the soap, or the shampoo.

I''ve also been sleeping in it, and I know I''ve asked about it before, but I do worry that maybe I''ll damage it in the process of sleeping, too.

Hmm. So many new things to think about now. Hee hee.
My grandmother asked us "when" the day after we were engaged. And then there was the priest on the day after that. And then there was... well, you get the picture. People just do that. We have a tentative date (October 4th 2008), but nothing official yet. We want a fall wedding, and I really really want to have the coloured leaves still on the trees (for the pics!!), so it might be late September, we''re not sure yet.

I don''t wear it in the shower or to sleep. I wouldn''t want to lose or damage it. Apparently, fabric wears up gold pretty quickly and my setting is pretty thin as it is, so I wouldn''t want to have to reset after a few years because I''ve been wearing it to sleep! I actually like taking it off to bed, because J can put it back on my finger every morning once I''m out of the shower when I sleep over at his place, and we both love that! I don''t wear it when I do messy things around the house either. However, once I''m out of the house, it never leaves my finger!

About the size, mine was way too loose at size 5. It wouldn''t fall off my hand because of my knuckle, but it really moved around a lot and wasn''t even tight when I was hot. So 4.5 it is!

I''m still not sure about the size thing, either. I think I''ll take it to a jeweler and see if they say it''s too loose. It doesn''t spin all the time, just sometimes.

hi fisher!

this is the original thread for my ring! linkie

My ring is all WG and I wear it everywhere, and doing pretty much everything - cleaning the house, moving boxes, etc... (although I don't do construction or anything like that!) and it has held up fine, for the last.. oh, two years or so? I have it checked every couple months and my jewelers and clean it often.

I dunnos, maybe I'm just not as concerned about it, I love my ring, and I want to wear it, so I figure, if it gets damaged or whatever, I'll deal w/it then, but until that happens I'm not going to live my life differently! hehe. Yeah, if I had a diamond encrusted pave ring I'd be more careful about it. I think it just depends what you're comfortable with.

ETA: it's normal for it to feel loose when your body is cold, so if it fits well during the middle of the day and isn't too tight ,and it doesn't feel like it's going to fall off when your hands are wet, I think it'd be fine.

Since we''ve been talking about cleaning, does anyone think vinegar could be bad for WG?
