i have rings in both metals, my engagement ring is platinum, my stacks and my promise ring were white gold. i definitely prefer the platinum over the white gold, to me its a whiter metal, and i like the weight of the platinum more than the gold, personally i would rather feel like im wearing a ring than feel like im not wearing anything.

i havent had my engagement ring repolished yet, although i do have to take it in soon, ive had it for 3 months almost, 4 if you include the amount of time my FI had it before he proposed, and its getting a little dull and a tiny bit scratch, but its not as bad as the white gold rings i have.

i really did notice how my white gold rings got yellow, i didnt like it at all... i started to notice the yellowing after 3ish months, and i would get it replated every 6...i dunno it cost like 50 bucks to replate and it took about a day or two.

i would def. go with platinum over white gold...but thats just me

There are enough good jewelers working with palladium now that if you are interested you can find one. If your jeweler is telling you that platinum will hold up any better than palladium he is lying. Palladium is harder than platinum and like platinum does not loose metal when scratch like gold does. As for long term worries, both palladium and platinum are used in catalytic converters...if they metal can withstand that environment, it will certainly be fine when you do the dishes.

As far as acidity, nitric acid is needed to break down palladium. But I assure you, your hand will never be in that acidic of an environment or you will have more to worry about than your ring.

Neither is better...one is just heavier than the other. Of course, marketing may lead you believe platinum is more prestigious.

Good luck!

Woo, I''m glad someone agrees! It''s why I chose Palladium as well.

Not all white gold is the same. Consumers should understand the kinds of white gold out there and, if not dealing with rhodium plating is important to them, seek out rings made from white gold that won''t need plating.

I have a white gold wedding set and a platinum right hand ring. I love both.

The white gold is an 18K palladium alloy so it''s still bright and silvery after 7 years and will remain so. My sister''s 1920s 18K white gold ring, which was likely a palladium or silver alloy, also looks as silvery as the day it was made.

My platinum ring is slightly grayer, and definitely heavier.

If price were no object, I''d go with platinum. However, if *is* there''s nothing wrong with white gold--as long as you know what you''re getting yourself in to.

I vote for pla as well - I just love the patina its developed...
