To cheer us up, the memes thread

@missy , how you made me laugh! We called “CAR” in the street! And my mom used those very cookie tins for buttons.

Yes I have fond memories of those days. It really was a more innocent time.
I am glad I could bring up happy memories and make you laugh. We need as much laughter as possible during these strange times.

Did you have these? We did. I still suck at typing though.

Fun fact: Did you know that 1 out of 7 Americans can trace their roots to Brooklyn?

@missy don't ask. It's a god awful concoction of bits of pickles and pimentos embedded in a bologna type meat. I think most people actually call it pimento loaf, but in our house the pickle was emphasized for some reason.

My mom used to grind bologna in a hand operated grinder then added pickles. She called it « ham salad ». What can I say. She grew up in the depression.

Well, yeah, I hate to complain about having food when others didn't, but when you're surrounded by other kids eating PB & J it was a little disappointing. I think my mom did it because she didn't like us having more sugar added. But I am definitely grateful that, with 5 kids in the family, we always had what we needed.

My grandparents were depression era, and I remember all the things they did to save money that I found weird as a kid. Like washing and saving styrofoam plates and plastic wrap. Now as an older person I admire their resourcefulness. More of us can follow the examples of the Depression Era generation.
