To contour or no?

So Mark at ERD sent my renderings for my band today and I'm thinking I don't want a contoured one. I would rather it just sit as flush as possible. Thoughts? The band is going to be in rose gold with engraving on the sides. I attached a photo of my ring too except it has a rose gold basket now.

I personally don't like contoured wedding bands because there are times that I wear my wedding band alone without the engagement ring, and I think it would look funny if it was a contoured band by itself. My current e-ring is set high enough that my wedding band can sit right next to it. From your CAD, I'm not sure how flush the two would sit if you didn't have a contoured band, so I guess it's up to you what you prefer.

Also, are there stones on the sides of both the e-ring and the wedding band? Even if not, I'd be concerned about the stones on the e-ring cutting into the wedding band without a spacer.

This is 100% a matter of personal preference, so I really think you should try on some contoured bands and some regular bands to see which you prefer.

As for me, I really really really dislike contoured bands. I have no idea why, it's not like a contoured band once took my lunch money in middle school and I never got over it. It's just a look that really bothers me.

I also think there's something to be said for having the ability to wear your band alone, which is something you really can't do with a contoured band.

LOL that really made me laugh.

I like contoured bands if there are two, one on each side to even it out.
And then you can get another blingy band if you want to wear by itself.

To go against the trend, I really, REALLY like contoured bands. I don't have one because the guy at the jeweler insisted they were "very 1980s" and my fiance instantly decided he hated contoured bands, so bought me a straight one... but one day I'll force him to buy me a contoured one! It just really bothers me to have gaps between them.

get 2 bands! Get a contoured one and a straight one (have them both put on at your wedding ceremony so they are both your "REAL" wedding bands, if that's an issue for you...) and you can have the option to wear contour w ering when you want to , or a single straight band on other days. Maybe that single straight band is a RHR on other days. Ta Da!

(Yeah, I have ZERO problem spending other peoples money! :naughty: :Up_to_something:  )

Haha if that were an option I would be getting three lol. One straight and two contoured (if my stumpy fingers could handle it :(( )

 Well --- what if you got a thin pave eternity of 1/2 eternity band as the 'straight' ring? or 2 thin pave bands then they could be on either side of your gorgeous ering or worn together on the no ering days...??? There are a few options available at the often used PS vendors that are not too outrageously expensive - check out IDJ for example. http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=53_127&products_id=16754

Only an idea - your original contour band looks beautiful!

(I'm just trying to "enable" you  )

I personally really don't like wedding sets that don't sit flush. I have a countour band that actually looks very nice on its own. I plan to get another one though to balance it out.

Charmy would you mind posting a picture of it by itself?

It's totally personal preference! If the countoured band is matched well with the e-ring, I think they can look gorgeous. Charmy's is a great example. Carrie Underwood and Natalie Portman both have curved bands that look beautiful with their e-rings!

I'm going to go against the grain too - I really like the look of contoured bands - I don't really like the look of a gap between the band and ering, but that's just me! I've heard people mention that they think contoured bands are an "80's" look, but I look at antique rings a lot on ebay, and quite a few of the wedding sets I've seen have contoured bands, so it's a style that's been around for a long time.

As others have said, it's totally personal preference! I guess if you think you're going to want to wear the wband alone sometimes, it makes more sense to get a straight band. I have never worn the wband to my set alone, I just don't have any desire to. But a lot of people do, so it's something you'll have to decide for yourself. Whatever you decide will look lovely I'm sure!

I will have to ditto Haven. I really dislike contour wedding bands. I'd wear an e-ring alone before I'd wear a contour band. But as she said, this is personal preference and you can see that reflected in the replies!
