I am looking to set my 1.02 F, SI1, Oval GIA certified diamond but am torn between two settings. I am completely undecided so I need your help experienced PSers. Tell me your opinion.

I love the second one!!! An oval would look gorgeous in it! I don't like the look of that first setting...

I prefer the first setting. It’s less ornate and daintier – thus making your oval the center of attention.

I think the halo is more classic while the 2nd one is more whimiscal (funny I was actually looking at that exact setting this morning). I think as you get older you might prefer the halo one to the whimiscal setting.

Honestly I would do the halo and then down the road if you can or have interest set a CS into the second setting for a RHR.

I think halos are too common and I've always felt they take attention away from the center stone or busy it up too much but the second set wouldn't do justice to the stone either, imho.

I would choose the halo!

I find the second setting really beautiful!

I woud chose not to halo for a fiew reasons. They are so polular i would be concerned about having to change it down the line once they become out of style (if that concerns you) and if you go from a halo to a non halo, its going to make your diamond seem smaller to your eye. So if you love halos do it. But if you love them both equally id pick the sEcond.

Do you need to see my options? A few months ago i thought you were sold on it, did something change??

I really love the second setting but for some reason I just can't picture it with an oval. I think I prefer oval stones in halos so I'm going to vote for the first setting.

I think both settings are beautiful, so I don't think you can wrong, but if I had to choose it would be the halo. The question of whether or not a halo will go out of style is a long debated one here, and you can find threads asking the same questions going back years, and they seem to remain as popular today as they did then. So I wouldn't let that sway me, the same can be said of teeny thin shanks, pave, metal choice, stone shape, old cuts, vintage, etc. Styles change and unless you go with a classic solitaire it's always going to be that way.

I think that you're smart to be taking your time making this decision. When you rush you are more likely to question if you made the right decision. You will be wearing this ring for a very long time and you should smile each and every time you look at it.

I don't think that particular halo will go out of style so I vote halo. I am in love with that setting and the peach sapphire, is it yours or just someone's photo? I really want it!!!!

This is what my thinking is as well. Sidenote, that first ring with the cs is gorgeous on its own!!

These were my exact thoughts!!! Although if you decide on a halo, I would look at a lot more halos before choosing one.

I think it would look nice with a oval (of course this one is probably larger than a ct)

ignore the quality of my photoshop haha

2nd setting. The details are amazing.

Thanks for photoshopping that nielseel! I still think I like the halo setting better for an oval. But I agree with DS that I would explore more halo settings first before going that route...

Wow two lovely settings, tough choice! I love fanciy shapes in halos, but the solitaire with side stones is a gorgeous design- sorry I'm no help... :) Cant wait to see whichever you choose!

Would you be open to considering the second setting but with the oval set east/west? I think that would be stunning!

I usually prefer halos with contrast (colored stone, or colored halo.) That said, if you halo your stone, the finger coverage will be better. If you are worried about DSS, I would halo.

I would definitely halo that oval, the first setting is
delicate and beautiful and makes the most of the diamond's size,
that's not to say the second one isn't gorgeous too,
but like many others, I think the halo is a better choice for oval...

(I have a CS oval ring, non-halo'd, and one friend refers to it as
"the little bean")
