To Reset or Sell?

I recently had this gypsy ring made for me as a travel ring or alternate to my engagement ring. While I do really like the ring, I wonder if the stones would look better set differently, ie new setting/style. How would you set these stones? What metal color? Halo/no halo or just sell?
Here’s a picture of the ring and one of the stones only.
Thank you!

I think it’s reall cool! Did the center stone darken once it was set or is it the lighting?

I do love the ring. I love the style. However I feel the yellow gold is overwhelming the diamonds. Too much of it.
could it be rhodium plated ? I wonder if that might suit the style better.
If I was going to redesign the setting, I’d leave the sides of the oval diamond without a metal bezel or instead I’d be tempted to change the oval diamonds metal sides to a small round diamond halo.

I love the ring also.....

Thank you. But something bugs me and I can’t quite put my finger on it. No, it’s just lighting.

Also, the diamond has a culet so that might be what’s showing up as dark in the photo.

Hmmm…I could try rhodium plating it.

If I were going to reset it I would be tempted to get an emerald shaped stone and set it north south but I really do love an art deco look so that’s probably why my mind goes there. Then do something completely different with the Center stone. But of course that is a very expensive option!

This doesn’t answer your question at all but for some reason I’d love to see a man rocking that ring. It has a unisex look to me and there aren’t enough designs that accomplish that. I’d try rhodium plating before resetting too.

Is this an Alex piece?

I think he’s shown others similar to yours that he rhodium plated before setting the stones, them polished it off to reveal the yellow gold. To prevent yellow gold color going thru leakage areas.
if so - maybe he has photos of yours before final polish?
wouldn't hurt asking - if you are really considering plating the whole thing

It definitely has a masculine touch to it and that’s what I thought I wanted, and I like wearing it with my chunky black rhodium plated anniversary ring:

Yes, it is! I love how comfortable it is and how it looks with my anniversary ring. Maybe it’s a bit too masculine for me, that may be it.

You have a unique and beautiful ring! I would love to have it on my hand. I wouldn't change anything and wear it proudly and happily.

So cool that you did that! Thank you. What are your thoughts?
I like it as is. I think it’s beautiful on you.
but I understand you are the one who needs to be in love.
”I” would be hesitant to rhodium plate it. Because of wear off. And the need to keep on top of it-redo.

maybe I might consider a satin finish on the yellow gold?

oooh i wonder how it would look in blackened gold. that's a nice chunkalicious combo =D

I love it just as it is. But if it isn't making you happy, and you think you might like it plated, try that. The satin finish idea is also a good one.

If it were me, I’d have it reset with the center stone rotated to North-South, in white metal with prongs.

This was my other thought - how would you set the baguettes?

I think what throws it off in my* mind is that the major lines of the side stones are running N/S but the cushion lines are running
E/W.

Arent the side stones step-cut traps?

I was looking for a smaller version of the ring below but no luck. Hopefully, you can get the idea from this ring. I know you were probably looking for low-set and more casual so this may not fit the bill but I love the way this ring looks.

Yes, I think I should have set it N/S and in a less bulky setting - completely my fault as I love gypsy rings but just not on my fingers. I’m going to search the web for some ideas. Thank you for your input.

If it was in a white metal with the center stone set N-S and no interruption between the sides and the center, it would look very different. The yellow gold interrupts the visual flow, and the east-west setting makes the center smaller than the first set of side stones because the side stones' width is longer than the width of the center stone. Make sense?

A bit sloppy but this might help give an idea of how it might look, general size/shape wise.
It’s hard to predict how the stone’s facet contrast will or may differ when out of the bezel, though.

I'm not going to lie, I remember seeing this ring on IG & thinking how beautiful the diamonds were but that I definitely would have set the center N-S instead of E-W. It's all personal preference though, so make sure whether you sell, reset, or replate, that you end up with a piece that feels fully "you"! ❤

Omg! Thank you so much for this!!! I’m really loving the one with the prongs!!!

I'm the one outlier in that- dun, dun, dun- I really don't like white metal most of the time. I know! Sacrilege. I think this ring is really cool and it's got a personality that can make it a signature in a sea of almost the same. I would just satin finish it or maybe even milgrain or engrave the bezels. You can always recast in N/S orientation and thin the bezel out a little. But, as always, that's me. You have to love it to wear it; if you don't what's the point, right?
