The best deal is to buy the Tiffany setting but buy the loose diamond somewhere else. Unless you are getting a 40% discount you will be paying that much extra for the loose diamond. Remember, no one will know that the diamond is from Tiffany''s anyway but they will know that the setting is Tiffany''s. This way you can get a bigger diamond or better quality diamond - if this is a concern for you.

It''d be awesome if that was a possibility, but unfortunately, Tiffany''s doesn''t sell settings by themselves. You need to buy the whole package

I'm not an expert, by any means, BUT if I had a chance to own a Tiffany ring (one that I love, of course) and pay significantly less, I would NOT be asking if I should.

If you don't go with Tiffany's, Leon is definitely another (new) favorite of mine. His work is just beautiful and it is custom...just like those folks at T&Co.

Good luck!!! I am sure you'll find something breathtaking...

For those who love Tiffany, Tiffany's designs are somewhat unique. Though the designs may be overpriced, I look at it like I do regarding designer things like Louis Vuitton. Sure, you could get a copy, an identical (or almost identical) bag in China or Hong Kong, but is that ok for you? It just depends on your personality. Preferably, I don't want a copy if I can get it for the same price.

BUT IT'S JUST A SETTING.. I know, the diamond is the main actor, but the supporting actress sometimes steals the show!
I really hope to get a Tiffany. And as terrible as it sounds, I would feel disappointed if I didn't have one and I think I would always wish I did have one (unless he surprises me with something spectacular that could take my mind off a Tiffany.) This is something I will wear every day for the rest of my life, so why not get what I want? lol

Thats just me.

However, since I don''t have a ring yet, if someone were to ask me, on BF''s behalf, which I would prefer...a lovely Tiffany ring or a just-as-lovely-and-sparkly (but probably larger) non-Tiffany ring, I''d have to go with the non-Tiffany. Dream, you feel the opposite?

Not to thread-jack, but just curious...

kmick, you dont like to read the other posts, do you? The OP already said that a T&C ring after employee discount would be about the same as from an internet vendor. You really should read all the posts before posting.
what are you talking about? where does she talk about the actual price anywhere in this thread.....she doesnt even allude to what the discount is or how big the price difference is?

tiffany marks up there diamonds at least double (at least double probably more) what you would pay online. Is her tiffany discount 50-75% off????

you really dont know much about diamond pricing b/c if you did you''d realize the Tiff diamond is going to cost you an arm and a leg more.

By the way, prices are roughly the same after the discount for Tiffany versus an internet vendor. Maybe a little bit more for Tiffany after taxes? Not sure.. but that's an insignificant expense in relation to the diamond ring cost.

From the OP.

In any case, it doesn't sound like her question is how to save $$, it's what are the pros/cons of each option.

There's no reason to imply that Surf doesn't know what she's talking about. Let's keep it friendly.

kmick... tiffanyornot does a great job of explaining the following, "By the way, prices are roughly the same after the discount for Tiffany versus an internet vendor. Maybe a little bit more for Tiffany after taxes? Not sure.. but that''s an insignificant expense in relation to the diamond ring cost."

Tiffanyornot is asking posters for their opinion on what they would choose if the branded Tiffany ring and a generic ring were virtually the same price (maybe a slight difference). Your responses continute to be about price when that is not really what the poster is asking for an opinion on. Also, its not fair to call someone out on diamond pricing unless you are truly an expert in the area.

Some people have said it politely before however you really need to read the posts. This is not the first thread in which you responded to a topic where the question you were trying to debate had already been answered. We are all aware of the price inflations at brand name stores, and I''ll say it again, that isn''t the question at hand here. If you''d like to start a thread about tiffany pricing vs. generic pricing then go ahead and maybe you''ll get to discuss what you are so eager to talk about.

lol...I guess you can see how long it took me to craft that post...

Copy you?! HA!

Hmmm, that is a tough question. I have my heart set on a Tiffany. I just love their designs and to me, nothing else compares. I would honestly feel some disappointment if I didn't get one. (sorry but its true) And probably would always wished I did have one. But I guess it would have to be a super-quality-knock-my-socks-off big diamond ring to outdo a Tiffany for me. lol!

I would take a Cartier or a Harry Winston hehe (just kidding, like that would ever happen!) But honestly, I don't know what size diamond he would get me to begin with. I would be happy with something over .75 but preferably over 1ct lol!

Who knows what will happen.....
