To UGG or not to UGG...

Ugg.

If I had the spends i would be buying a pair right now. My footsies are soooooo cold. Brrrrrrr.

Don't even hesitate...buy em!!! When you are pregnant you need COMFORT and UGGS sure are comfy and toasty. I also think they look cute on pregnant ladies! I was pregnant during the winter time and I wore both of my pairs (I have black and chestnut in the classic tall) and SO MANY people commented on how cute I was with my belly and my Uggs!!! Treat yourself. They are pricey, but they last FOREVER if you take care of them. After every winter, I clean mine and put them back in their boxes.

Teva bought out UGG.....and they went down after that, imo. now considered "urban" chic. sigh.

MoZo

ps love my older vintage UGGs.

Oh I'm all about comfort over fashion. I would get some if I could justify spending that much money on a pair of boots. Although I bought a pair of what I'm sure are Ugg knockoffs two winters ago, and if I could find the real version of these, I might consider buying them. LOVE them, but they're looking pretty bad. They need to be replaced.

I've managed to resist them... I don't actually think they are that ugly but everywhere I look all I see is ugg boots!! I don't plan on getting any at this point, mainly because even though they are comfortable they are (glorified) slippers and have no real support for your feet. But they are popular so they've done something right :)

I'm definitely a fan of shearling boots, but not a fan of UGGs as a company. Check out Kiwi-sheepskins [dot] com or ULU (I got mine from Zappos). I like them a lot more. But definitely go for the shearling boots. Great for walking the dog in the middle of the winter.

BIG DITTO. Shearling boots can be quite elegant looking, and they're comfortable as all get-out ... but the Ugg version is deeply unattractive, at least to my eyes.

How old are you Miska?

Unless you are under 25, I think you need to pass. Even on that age group they look silly, but they can get away with it. Any older and they look silly AND like you are trying to be young ;))

Aww Dreamer, for once I have to disagree with you! (I feel like this is a commemorative event, as it does not happen often :P)

For the trendy styles, like the fur-covered ones, tassles, corduroy, I agree, but for the classics - I think they look fine on any age.

And I actually don't think they're that ugly - I absolutely LOVE mine with leggings and a long heavy sweater (long enough to cover my butt in leggings!).

FYI: If you guys have feet on the smaller side, I would check out kids sizes too - I normally wear an adult 5 for Uggs, but I know I've bought kids sizes before - just can't remember which size exactly.

Oh and funny story - so my 1L year I flew back to Chicago for New Years Eve. Went out to this club with a big group of friends. One of my friends brought his girlfriend from CA - she was very nice, but very fobby (fresh off the boat). Wore these HUGE furry Uggs with her short dress.... we totally made fun of her behind her back (ok those Uggs were ugly and totally not appropriate for a club scene). Well fast forward a few hours later when we leave and there are no cabs, no buses, and it's snowing, there's snow ON THE GROUND, and the other girls and I are in heels, no stockings, freezing our feet off...and then there's this girl, nice and comfy and warm in her formerly ridiculous (but now feet-saving) Uggs.

I learned my lesson :P

ACK!!!! Dreamer, I can't believe you said that. :cheeky: We grandmas like UGGS and we don't think we look like grandma's ha ha.

Actually I own two pair and my tootsies are nice and warm. My age group and friends like warm feet too. :naughty:

No way. Plus when you're over 30, you shouldn't care what anyone thinks anyway!

I never liked them until I went to Oz. Then I had to sit in a cold house and socks didn't cut it. I bought some (not uggs, but a comparable brand) and fell in love.

Maybe the taste for it is regional. Where I live, only the silly little students wear them... I say that with love ;)) And my mantra is to try to never wear anything my students would wear.

I guess I just think they look silly. I bet they are comfortable. But so are pajamas and slippers and I don't wear them out of the house either

That said, I wear Birkenstocks. Those are pretty ugly too. But here, everyone wears them, even then grandma's :halo:

I think some of you ESTEEMED ladies have not checked out the UGGs site in this decade. Generalizations about the "Classic" varieties aside -- I fail to see how anyone can paint the entire line with a single brush. (i.e. -- "under 25 only" or "gross"). They carry DOZENS of different styles of shoes/boots: from preppy to urban to funky to collegiate to dare-i-say sophisticated.

Check them out! Join us. It feels oh so good in here.

Agreed. Join us. We have Kool-Aid!

Agree with Deco. I am a stylin' grandma ha ha ha ha ha.

Honest to god, my favorite are the baily button boot (I had a thread last year).. I do get a lot of compliments on them... but then again, when you have 0 degree weather, I don't give a flying rat a$$ how I look, as long as I'm warm.

True story: In line in front of us on black friday was a stupid little girl wear a HOODIE, no jacket, no gloves and no hat. She didnt even have the hood up. It was ZERO degrees out, she had snot dripping from her nose and and tears frozen to her cheeks... ya think that really looks better than uggs, and a huge puffy coat?  :saint: 8-)

Miscka, Not sure if you are a New England Patriots fan or have even heard of the team, but hot off the presses........QB Tom Brady just announced his new endorsement deal for .....you guessed it UGGS!! He will be featured in the Fall 2011 add campaign.

I am sure that has no bearing on your decision to UGG or not. But thought this tidbit was timely.

I am not afraid to admit that I love Uggs. I got my first pair when they first became trendy and never looked back. I wore them everyday in the winter when I lived in New York on my walk to work and my feet were never cold even though I am always freezing. I know that they may no longer be consider cool (at least not the classic styles), but I could not care less. They are warm and comfortable and perfect for running errands, walking the dog, etc. I don't go in for all the newer trendy ones (furry, sequined, etc.) as I personally feel a little old for that, but if you like it, rock it.

My DH used to mock my Uggs all the time until I replaced his worn out slippers with man Uggs (the Aston slipper). He is a total convert and tells all his friends that they need man Uggs too!

Omg, I pray my daughter doesn't find out about this

When I wore mine outside it was mostly with boot-cut jeans. I hope that meets with granny patrol approval -- or are boot-cut jeans out too once the AARP has tried to recruit you? :wink2:

UHHHH, this Granny tucks hers inside her jeans... and I am no gray haired granny either ha ha.

Not to Ugg :knockout:

haha..

I wanted to also say what the heck makes those UGGS other than the brand name? They are a totally different *make* not only style. Is it the same sole? The same shearling inside? Why is that called an UGG at all.

It is like me saying, "I hate high heals!" and you saying "No no, you don't, look at these they are so not the way you think of high heels!" And then you post a photo of a flat shoe 8)
