Thank you, @lovedogs! For 17 years now, Eleanor has accidentally been calling me
'Mum'. Today she gave up the accidental part and went 'all in'. The truth is - I've always been her mother. But today's legalization sort of gave us both permission to love each other as much as we do. I can't explain it - it's like we just needed that last piece of the puzzle to validate us in the eyes of the world. For years we've tried to explain it to people - but god mother, step mother, fairy-step-god-mother (her term for me up till now) never *quite* cut it for both of us. We wanted the real deal - in the eyes of *everybody*. We have that now. It's like a sigh of relief.

@Muluver - I'm so glad you like the locket! It's a substantial, beautifully made, lush piece FILLED with meaning. Next year we'll begin the process of getting Eleanor Australian citizenship. At which point I'll get her a Southern Cross locket also. :))

@88_star - we are *so* proud of our newly official status. We really do think we're the bees knees. :))

@HS4S_2 - Thank you so much! We put extra effort into commemorating this properly. Those 'life event markers' are important and help one realize the major steps taken. We value this change in status and we feel it in our hearts. <3

Thank you, @RunningwithScissors :)) You're quite right - the adoption is the *last* step in the process. It formalizes what already is. But it's the exhale at the end of a very long holding of breath. <3

@ringo865 - no - it really *was* me crying. But they were very, very happy tears. :))

@DejaWiz - what a gorgeous family you have! Adoption is truly special, isn't it? Most people aren't familiar with adult adoption, but it's a different beast again and definitely has a place in the world of 'how to form a family'. Families aren't static. They move and shift and reform over the years, and mine has done just that. I could not be happier with this final iteration and thank God for this amazing blessing.

All her life, Eleanor has told me that her one regret is that she doesn't look more like me. <polite cough> (yes, I am fully aware of the ridiculousness of that, given the raging beauty that she is!) Particularly that she doesn't have blond hair. I have assured her (and I mean - ASSURED her!) that she is perfect the way she is, and that, while we may not look alike, we have the same heart and the same joie de vivre! I will tell her that you thought our smiles were similar. It will utterly make her day. Bless you. <3
