I know this has probably been discussed here, but not recently, so I thought I'd open it up.
If you could have any kind of wedding at all - and if money was no object - what would it be like? Where would it be? What would you and your FI wear? Flowers? Food? Honeymoon? I want to hear details!
I'll start....
I'm not a fancy kind of girl, and I was never the type to dream about a big princess type wedding. I'd have the same kind of wedding if I had oodles of money as opposed to not. Thing is, I live in Connecticut. There is a lot of money in this state, and big princess weddings are pretty much the norm. People really like to show off here, which is so not-me. It is VERY unusual not to have the $5K dress, the big church wedding, the elaborate sit-down dinner and a honeymoon to somewhere exotic and tropical.
I want a classic "biker" wedding in the late summer or very early fall. Biker as in "motorcycle." A lot of my friends are bikers, as are my BF's. My BF is in a popular local Southern Rock band....he's a biker and most of the fans are, too. Bikers are some of the most honest, earthy, fun people. We'd get married outside - in a backyard or in a park. It would be really casual - guests could dress up or not, kids and dogs could come, and even shoes would not be required. I would wear a simple white dress and white cowboy boots. I'd wear a cowboy hat with netting on the back as opposed to a headpiece. And instead of getting flowers from a florist, I'd just pick something wild and wrap a ribbon around the bunch. Here in the North, we have gorgeous wildflowers - black-eyed Susans, wild red poppies, Queen Anne's lace, forsythia, lilac and these purple weedy things that grow in swamps (I think it's called purple loostrife). My BF would wear his jeans, his snake boots, a white shirt with a bolo tie and his leather bike vest. I'd have my three best girlfriends stand up for me. They would have on Western wear (I was thinking long denim prairie skirts, concha belts and white shirts, with tan cowboy hats). I would ride in on the back of a bike (probably driven by either his best man or my MOH) and my son would give me away.
After the ceremony (which would be quick), everyone would hang out for a PIG ROAST! We could possibly also have a clambake-type firepit with clams, potatoes, etc., grilling alongside. My best friend is one of the most amazing cooks, and I would ask her to make my wedding cake - nothing fancy or traditional, with wildflowers for decoration.
Since we have a lot of musician friends, people would be encouraged to bring instruments. I'd change out of my dress and into jeans at some point. My BF has these cargo shorts and horrible teva-like mandals that he'd probably put on....and I would promise not to bitch about them for just that one day. The party would last as long as everyone would stay awake, and we'd encourage people to bring tents/sleeping bags to sleep over. In the afternoon after the wedding (we will need sleep!), we'd leave on our honeymoon, which (if money were no object) would be a 2-3 week trip of the American Southwest -- New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Arizona. We both love it out there.
