I found a setting I really like for an engagement ring (see attached). It's a trellis, which is just what I was looking for, but now I've been told by the owner or a local jewelry shop that they don't work very well as engagement rings. He said that once you get the wedding ring on there, the uneven sides of the trellis leave some space between the two rings, and you can see skin peeking through. I've done some searches on here, and see that several of you own trellises - how do you like them? Do they really have a lot of space there?

The obvious answer is to find one locally and hold it next to a plain band, but I've been unable to find anything that's close enough to answer my question. My girlfriend may not even mind, but she wants the whole thing to be a surprise, so I can't really ask her.

If you happen to have some pictures of your ring (which I've noticed many of you do), I'd love to see the gap (if any). Thanks very much.

Where did you find this setting? It''s beautiful!

Anybody have any insight into this problem?

My e-ring is a three-stone trellis, and I do wear it with a wedding band. There is a gap, but it is tiny . . . and I mean tiny! Personally, I think it actually looks kinda nice with the wee little gap.

I''ve heard of wedding bands where if you have stones in them, they are slightly bowed out to accommodate for the engagement ring...do you think this might help? Also, I''ve seen places that stress designed bands that fit flush with engagement rings. This could also help to eliminate the gap. I thought this was a common practice at most jewelry retailers...I''m surprised that you''re finding this not to be true. I even saw a ring on the site you gave me that mentioned the bowed out stones to leave room for the e-ring. Did you try contacting them? I hope you get the help you need with this issue - sorry I don''t know more!

By the way, on a side note, do you know if the web site where you found your e-ring setting includes ideal cut diamonds in their mountings or do they offer a low cut grade? I''m trying to figure out why their mountings are so affordable even though they include larger diamonds with a good clarity and color range. Do you know anything about this?

Do you not want any space at all? I think a little space looks okay and many gorgeous ring sets have one. Think of all the Erings out there that couldn''t be worn if any space was undesirable. I know that WF makes a beautiful three stone trellis, and I am sure they could make you a custom wedding band to wear with it that would sit flush if it is important to you to have no gap at all.
