In shopping for an emerald, it seems as if the "squarish" shapes are most predominant today. In the past I used to think of an emerald as more rectangular.
Wasn't the most common traditional emerald shape something more like a 1:4 to 1:6 L/W ratio?
However, today it seems like most of the available emeralds are in the 1:15 to 1:3 range.
Is this a current style trend? Or, is there just a shortage of rectangular stones which are being cut??
