I just ordered a 2.04 lavender (purple) spinel. It's a beautiful gem from Burma, clean with one tiny line barely noticeable under 10x. I love the trillion cut I actually wanted one. I'm stumped on a proper setting. The gem is 10 mm by 7.2 by 4.5. So it's a wide zone. I'm willing to listen to any ideas for help us to setting this. I bought it from my wholesaler in Bangkok. The price was right, although not inexpensive it's definitely John quality. Share any ideas on settings like this. Thanks a million, or a trillion.

Very pretty indeed! I too enjoy trilliants, and it's nice to add different shapes to one's collection. Will this be an engagement ring? Does she prefer halos or 3 stone designs... or something more simple and clean like a solitaire with maybe diamonds on the band?

That's my issue with the setting Thinking about doing the band. Pics of side stones I've seen don't match up well with the trillant cuts too well. It's not an engagement ring. Just a gift or I may pocket it. I have a nice pink sapphire loose that could be the gift...oh, the word "John" in my original post should have been "gem."

Ooo I love it! Lovely color. Pendant Is my recommendation

I know. Should be a pendant. I'm stuck on a ring. I see tons of halo examples which I feel like that's what you do when you're not being creative. Just don't like halos personally.

I saw this design the other day and thought it was very unique while still being modern and clean. Plus, no halo or need to find the right shaped side stones (which is tough for a wide trilliant).

What a lovely color!

I searched for trillion rings on 1stDibs and here are a few:

Edit: of course now I see that you don't like halos -- oops! but some of these are more unique halos.

If you have other jewelry pieces you like, even if they wouldn't work for this stone, that may help people at least narrow things down to your style.

Edit 2: I just remembered that I saw two simple trillion rings at Romanov Russia:

Beautiful. Those are quite creative too. It's hard to be creative and end up with reasonably conservative presentation. I'll post a pic when I decide. Send any mounts you like.

Variation on this:

Modify one side to fit the stone, Make a third knife-edge the tip.

I absolutely love this setting and I've had it saved for a while. I also love the detail of light pink diamonds to contrast the blue, and light blue diamonds to contrast the pink. But I understand if OP finds it too out-there.

regarding side stones looking off for trilliants, I came across this, and I think it works well. Though your trillion shape is different so I'm not sure how it would work.

I also like @Neptune 's suggestions. Heres a modern askew design by the same designer I mentioned above. Again, trouble envisioning how it would look with your triliant myself - but maybe has potential if its not too out there for your tastes.

Some further away shots show how subtle the skew is here:

Last one which I think maybe answers the 'hard to be creative and end up with reasonably conservative presentation' dilemma - imo. Band could have diamonds or not. By Gioia found on google images.

How much did it cost?

A few more ideas, inspired by a couple of accounts I follow on IG. It wouldn't take much more to source a few small sidestones to accomplish a similar look! I would do a combination of prongs and semi bezel
