I''ve just purchased a 1.01 D, VS2 Princess cut in a 4 point tiffany setting. I thought that an insert with two .33 carat trillion diamonds on each side would be a nice finishing touch for the wedding. I did a search on tnis site for trillion cut and there were zero results. Are such diamonds uncommon? Where might I locate a couple of them, D, VS2 as well? Also, Would this be a good combination? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!

Trillions are a common side stone option.
The paring of center stones with various side stone options is really a personal call -- you have to see if you like how the faceting patterns of the princess look flanked by that of the trillions.

The combination is among the classics, as far as I know. It just so happens that there are more solitaires around here. I can remember at least one ring with a round and trillions, but this is about it.

Usually the jeweler who makes the ring provides the sidestones. Trills are large for their weight and the size varies allot - so a target weight (let alone as precise as 33pts) is not going to pin down the look of the ring. The jeweler can provide options though.

Hope this helsp

Btw, "trillion", "trilliant" and "triangle" cut are used interchangeably to describe the same cuts. If you are using www search to locate examples, either of the words could be useful.

The "build you own ring" engine at adiamondsisforever.com lets you play with shapes and sides. Just do not take their weight specifications for granted.

That is my ring that is the round with side trills!!!
Not a common pairing, I know, but that is one of the things about it that appeals to me!
Also, my ring is the only one I''ve seen where the jeweler set the trills flush against the round and it is seamless, which isn''t usually well done given that the trills have a straight edge and the round does not.

Valeria''s info regarding size is important -- the trills'' weight is basically all in the table, so "what you see is what you get", essentially. Thus, you need less carat weight in trills to get the same "spread" you would get in another shape, such as a round.

Here are the specs on the GIA cert. Just out of curiosity, what do ya''ll think, is this a good princess cut stone, at least on paper? Any pros and cons are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Don,
I would say that a 1.01 is simply too small to go well with trilliants.
The reason? You need a certain sized prong to hold the side stones.
The size trilliant you need to a 1.00 center means than you''ll be looking at more prong than side diamond.

There''s no way to tell much about any diamond simply by looking at a GIA report- hopefully it''s a great looking stone.
It is on the deep side at 75% - but that does not mean that it does not look awesome- but it will look smaller than diamond with say 65% depth.
This makes the trilliants even less likely for side stones.

What was the price of the stone? If you''d like to publish the price, we could let you know if it was a good deal.

I purchased the stone from a long time friend who's been a jeweler for over twenty years. I paid 4000.00 for the stone (comparable to a .9 carat princess cost listed on this site), 100.00 for mounting (tiffany setting, 4 point, white gold with platnum tips). I know for sure that I got a great deal on the stone, but that is what true friends do for one another right! I have not yet viewed the stone, which might be considered a mistake, but I will receive it within the next week. My friend (located out of state) assured me that the stone has great action, with great scintilation and good fire...so it is a bit of a leap of faith, but I trust my friend (the jeweler) who runs a reputable operation, and I have the option to return it if necessary for a full refund. So all in all I feel like a got a fair shake and a good deal. Let me know what you think...thanks DON HULIO.

Also, once I get the ring, I'll try to post some pictures for anyone who is curious to see. Thanks again.
