Anyone ever been here?
http://www.littledixbay.com/

I am sitting in the office dreaming of my next vacation. We don't take many... so I"m doing it right :) This is for next Feb or March. This place, NAME ASIDE LOLOLOL, looks amazing!!! :) Any other suggestions welcome!

I don't want a big resort with lots of people. I like privacy and a nice private plunge pool would be a +. And it can't be CRAZY expensive. I need to save my upgrade money

I also just read about St. Peters Island in the british virgin islands too...siiigggghhhh

WOW. that is beautiful! But with my luck, I''ll get stuck between two shifting boulders like the guy on dateline! WHere did you stay there? That place I picked is just too much money to spend I think...

MMM if you don''t mind me tacking on, have you (or anyone else) had experiences with Sandals resorts? I know they are in some beautiful locations but have heard differing opinions about the resort. I know that during the peak vacation times (i.e. summer and spring break) the place is very hectic to say the least. But we like to take our vacations Feb-April time frame. What do u all think?

Also I have not heard of that place MMM.

You got that right...I''d rather go to this place for 5 days than some other place for 10--quality over quantity, Babe!

I''ve bookmarked their site.

Tack away! :) My in-laws went to sandals and felt very old LOL. I hear that all inclusive is the best! Not a care in the world. I like secluded and serene places...not with hot newlyweds all over the place making me feel like a big fat old turd LOL

Big fat old turd?!??!?! LMAO!

I am with you, a little peace and quiet goes a long way. But here is where me and my hubby differ...how long is too long to stay in a secluded type setting? Do you think after a couple of days boredom will set in? We have been struggling with this in planning our next vacation, right now we are leaning towards Aruba but like you we want a nice cozy resort with all the goodies MINUS all the people!

I am just giving my opinion, and don't wish to offend anybody but I HATED Sandals. Part of the issue was that we were young and untravelled and the agent really took advantage of us. We went on our honeymoon to Sandals St. Lucia and they put us at the Halcyon beach resort becasue it was supposed to be smaller and more intimate...well, it was a filthy, stinking mess. We paid $8,000 in 1996 for 9 nights and were robbed. Travel agents are told to push Sandals and Beaches, so I would be VERY wary of what they say. We wanted Hawaii and were told "you can't afford it." How sad to learn after the fact that that was a LIE.
29.gif
I told her we would rather go fewer days to go to a top-of-the-line place, wanted no kids and a very high-end experience. We got Sandals.
emotion-41.gif
I could cry to this day thinking about it.

The food was disgusting and sub-standard IMO. Have you EVER heard of anyone losing weight on her honeymoon??? I did. The meat was NOT like US standards...I bit into a hamburger fom their poolside cafe and hit somehting hard and crunchy, then threw it up. So, be prepared for crap meat. Portions were very tiny and the food was just disgusting...I wouldn't give it to my dogs. The rooms were dirty and not in any way "luxurous." The AC didn't work too great; it was always hot and humid. We paid for a "Caribbean front room" and when we got there, we had to walk 5 ft out the door and stand on our tippy toes to see a speck of blue water. Our "room" was part of a two-story bungalow and the people on top of us were loudy and raucous. I started crying when we got into the room. My husband complained and they moved us to the bigger Sandals on the other side of the island. This was *marginally* better but still substandard for $1,000 a day. And I hate to sound snobby but the guests at these resorts were less than the most cultured or intelligent. They pushed those stupid, sophomoric activities. The staff was mediocre at best. The place smelled musty. I hated it.

We made the best of it but I would never go back there--there are way too many other places in the world.

PS And for what it's worth, we have run across about 5 or 6 other couples who went there and had the EXACT same experience. I kid you not--we all bond over it.

Lady- I hear ya on that. On our honeymoon, we went to disney for a few days and then atlantis paradise island b/c I couldn't do nothing for 2 weeks... so you need to find a place that has trips and activities. My friend just went to costa rica and there is so much to do and then there is absolutely nothing to do! ;) Trust me, big and fat and a turd. Maybe not old LOL

p.s. Well, it turned out I HAD to do nothing. I had a double hear infection and throat infection 2 days into the honeymoon. That sucked.

JFO- so when are you going back
9.gif
OMG. That is horrible. And I wet myself re not giving it to the dogs. They probably only get 90%+ lean too I bet

Babe, you go to Sandals, and that will be the LEAST of your problems....

DH and I went to Sandals Ocho Rios for our honeymoon, but we were 28 and 26 respectively. We went back for our 4 year anniversary and felt VERY out of place!! It was a bunch of youngin''s partying and getting drunk. We felt like we entered a Jamaican frat party!!

For our 7th anniversary, we decided to try something different. We went to Couples Negril in Jamaica. Ahhhh....paradise!! Although there are young people there too, the crowds seemed to be more subdued and there were different age groups throughout the resort. Even when the resort is packed, it still doesn''t FEEL packed...know what I mean??

For our 9th anniversary, we returned to Couples....it was just as we remembered it for our 7th...the age range is much more diverse and while there were a FEW party goers, the resort itself didn''t feel like a frat party...

I probably won''t ever go back to Sandals....Couples is more our speed and now being 10 years older, our frat party days are over!!

mmm, my fiance and I have been considering Little Dix Bay for our honeymoon! I know, I hate the name too, but I''ve heard only wonderful things about it. We really want to be on a secluded beach with nothing to do except relax, eat and drink and not be surrounded by tons of screaming children or twentysomethings on spring break! God, I''m 34 and I sound like a crotchety old sourpuss!!

We are also thinking about Cap Juluca in Anguilla. It looks really gorgeous and relaxing too! And there is another place in Anguilla called Cuisinart which looks amazing. You may want to check both of those out.

We''re getting married in February and the only problem with the Caribbean at that time of year is that it is high season so the prices are definitely up there. We''re thinking of waiting until April/May (they call it shoulder season) when the prices go down a little bit although after planning this wedding, I''m definitely going to need a break! Maybe Miami or Key West for a few days...

You may also want to consider the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. We went to Playa del Carmen between Christmas and New Years and absolutely loved it. There are tons of all inclusive places but you can also find cute boutique hotels. We stayed at the Aventura Mexicana which is a really nice adults only hotel, not a resort. Very small and quaint (aka no frills), nice pool and grounds, no meals included, quiet, close to the beach, great restaurants within walking distance. But there are plenty of other great hotels there. We just loved the town of Playa del Carmen and the dollar goes a loooooong way in Mexico so you don''t have to sacrifice your upgrade!!

Thanks! I will definite check those out!

How funny would it be to tell people you went to LITTLE DIX BAY for your honeymoon LOL. Not a place any gals really want to be ROTFL!!!!!!!!

And this looks great too...same company (Rosewood Resorts)...and a "little" less expensive
http://www.caneelbay.com/

My favorite place is Curtain Bluff in Antigua. Very small and excellent food. We go every March. This will be our 7th year coming up.

Hey- my anniversary is in March...so see you there LOL.

They don't list the rates though....But tell me more- are you right on the beach? Are there a lot of little kids there? I find children irritating LOL. J/K. (kind of

No not a lot of little kids. There are some. Your romm has it''s own terrace overlooking a private beach, it food is so good we call it Curtain Stuff. All inclusive and it''s awesome. They do have a website. I''ll be home Thursday, I''ll PM you the info.

Is this it, Kaleigh? http://www.curtainbluff.com/index_2.html

I looked it up b/c I am still looking for places for honeymoon and possible Destination Wedding. I can''t make up my mind about big wedding or destination wedding/honeymoon.

Oh Morti! Check this place out...although I shouldn''t show you. I think the guests would hurl at the room rates....sigh.

Can''t believe you''re still away you little bratttttt Ms. Kaleigh

Sign me up. Hey--it''s okay to want a resort that isn''t all about the kiddies.

Some places are designed for families...others for big lazy snots like me who just want to fry in the sun in peace with a martini in her hand.

Jennifer - That is terrible about your Sandals experience!
38.gif
I have always heard two ends of the spectrum but mostly heard negative things about Sandals, and pretty much exactly what you described (too much noise, too much college kids, too much drunkards, dirty room, poor service etc.), I think I will save my cash on ever trying a Sandals resort.

Hey if you want seclusion how about www.privateislands.com you can actually RENT whole islands! LOL Or how about we all just pitch in and BUY an island!

Little Dix Bay looks GORGEOUS! Showed hubby and he wanted to book NOW for next summer. Only problem is traveling there, when I did a search we would have to fly from Norfolk to Dallas to San Juan, Puerto Rico to Beef Island and ferry over to Virgin Gorda
23.gif
WHHHYYY!!!! And I HATE those little planes
7.gif
Why do I have to be cursed and love to travel but dislike flying!

Edited to fix cursed typos!

OMG. I don't think hubby would go for all that flying either. He gets really nervous b/c he was on a plane once when one of the engines or whatever pooped out. The plane dropped very suddenly and they made an emergency landing. He's a wreck.

LOL re private island. As long as they have cable!

And who else here can picture JFo on a recliner, dripping in diamonds, hair up in a towel and Jackie O sun glasses on, snapping her polished fingers for the pool boy to bring her another martini!! Classic image ! :)

Another fabulous resort is Parrot Cay in Turks and Cacos, but the price is over my head. There are a few honeymooners at CB and other couples as well. It''s very private and the staff is like family now to us. We cry every time we leave. MMM, yes still on vacation

I also want to echo the Anguilla suggestions. I went last Christmas and am going again this Christmas (two weeks, hooray!) and hopefully for many years to come. Lots of families, but I didn''t notice the kids a bit... It''s great if you like to celeb watch too. I don''t, but when I was there, Jen & Brad were breaking up, Courtney & David were in tow, Denzel was having his 50th birthday party, etc. Great eye candy!

If you like a slower speed, would you ever consider renting a house? It''s a lot more economical, especially during high season, and if you pick the right place, you can really get away from it all. We had our own beach on a quiet cove and it was about $100 less per night than the cheapest room at Cap Juluca.

If not, I''d suggest the Malliouhana Hotel. It''s got a great bar and is gorgeous. One of my college friends goes to CuisinArt every year with her mom and loves it as well. The spa is supposedly fantastic. Cap Juluca is beautiful, but I sauntered up to their beach bar and spotted mold in the blender. I''m sure it was a one time thing, but it was enough to creep me out.

Oh yes Kaleigh, Parrot Cay is on my list as well--looks gorgeous but $$$$$! I think Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck got married there.
14.gif

Yup, I''d have to win the lottery to go there. Our friends have been, and they just bought a house there. Maybe I can sneak an invite, Lol!!!!

Anyone ever heard of Ladera Resort in St Lucia? We stayed there last January and it was the most wonderful place on earth for us. 1200 ft up in a rain Forrest and all rooms have 3 walls, plunge pool and very private. Maybe 25 rooms.

MMM, I haven't been to Little Dix Bay, but have been to the BVI's, and loved them. A friend of mine (fairly wealthy with high end taste) used to LOVE Little Dix Bay. From what I remember it was all inclusive, with 3 meals a day etc so the rates were high, but you have to figure what you would spend otherwise for food.

The BVI's are really a boater's paradise. Pretty remote and quiet. Lots of people charter boats and sail or motor between the little harbors etc. They are completely different from the USVI in that way. Just quiet and laid back.

Never been to a Sandles, but I have heard some negative comments.
