Trying to buy engagement ring!

I'm looking for an engagement ring with a budget hopefully around the neighborhood of $2000. I know for sure what kind of setting she likes, something like the following with the twisted diamond sides and a diamond halo

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Jewelry.aspx?query=149228

http://www.whiteflash.com/gallery/diamond-engagement-rings/diamond-braid-diamond-engagement-ring-34201.htm
(^this one is good but with the halo lower down so the main diamond sticks out more)

As far as the diamond she definitely wants a round, I'm looking at around 0.5 carats with color G or H and ideal or excellent cut. A big question I have is if it's safe/common practice to buy a diamond from somewhere and have it shipped to the other place where I like a setting. For example, I like the Solomon Bros setting above, but couldn't really find any ideal cut diamonds for them. Or is excellent on their site really probably a very good looking cut?

Thanks for any feedback!

here is a lovely one from ja that could get you the stone you want at the same place. Look around at there settings i bet you find one you like

This setting with this diamond, which scored a .8 on the HCA (extremely rare), G SI2 should put you right at your budget after the PS discount that you get at JA:

PS if you like this stone, PUT IT ON HOLD ASAP and request an idealscope and chat with the gemologist to make sure it's eye clean - which because they now post videos of all their stones, you're able to see that it it. But they can see it in person...

I like this one from Gabriel and Co. and you could get it and the diamond at Good Old Gold:

They could call in a diamond for you. But it's going to be tight with a $2k budget.

That JA setting looks nice, but it has a different kind of shank than the one you showed.

you are right ds it is different, it doesnt have as large of swoops bht it does have the look with a a smaller pricetag to allow for more money toward the diamond. maybe this is something.to contact id jewelry about

Would you consider something vintage? It's very very popular right now and it would be very unique and special. I came across this and thought that I'd post it to see what you thought...

I've always loved this one, so delicate, but doesn't have a halo for a bit of size boost.

emerald cut with halo...

Thanks for all the help here! I really like the one from Gabriel. Christina I know she for sure isn't a huge fan of the triple diamond look (one on either side), but thanks for that. Leaning towards the Gabriel one now but still looking. Her friend recently got engaged and had a twisted side on her ring, so I have no idea if she would prefer that one less now or not but I am looking into rings with tear drop looking diamonds down the side now as well.

So you dont know if she would like that now? did she tell you specifically she wanted a twisty one? Or one with a lot of bling?
Also, you want pear shaped side stones? but not a three stone? I am not sure how that would be accomplished but if you want it to be a halo with haloes side stones they do have ones like that?

Is this the look youre talking about?

If my best friend just got engaged with a ring i like, i think i would want something different. but thats how I feel, hard to say how she would

Well we went to Diamonds Direct a few months ago and she said she really liked 2, one with twisty sides and a halo and one with the tear drop look (like this if I remember correctly http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Jewelry.aspx?query=146058)

I've gotten some good ideas here and a few new sites to check out. At some point I'll just have to pick one or the other! (trying to get some of her friends to feel it out...) My biggest other question is if it's generally safe practice if I were to buy a diamond from one place and have it sent to another?

OH! I get what you mean. Thats very pretty. But a very specific design, going to be hard to try and find a similar one.
How would she feel about this

I think its similar to both in that it has shapes down the side of the shank, and is a bit "cris cross" in how it gets wider then comes to a point for each marquise shape.

And if you were to get a diamond from good old gold, they sell that brand so you wouldnt have to worry about getting the stone one place and then the setting another. I would try and keep them at the same place, it would be easiest and cut down on cost vs going to two separate places and having to pay for insurance and shipping.

Oo I really like that first one you posted, that's the leader for now I think. I might try to see if I can find one like that but with a halo, not overly hopeful for that but I'll see. Big thanks for showing me this gabriel ny, hadn't seen it before and they have a lot of good stuff.

Edit: Like this! http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Jewelry.aspx?query=138896 but unfortunately that's a bit more than I can pay :-/
