So I thought if I made the title vague, people would feel like they could talk about gems or food - though I hope no one ended up wearing food unless they wanted to. I wore my favorite blue sapphire ring and my Grandma's engagement ring (too big so on my middle finger).

But even more importantly, on the spur of the moment, my 14-year old and I made an apple pie that came out of the oven while we were finishing dinner so we had warm apple pie. I am not a pie lover, but I loved this pie! It was made from apples from our tree and it was gone in a flash. I thought of VL, because I've seen pics of the apple pies he makes.

Anyone else? Anybody get really dressed up and wear bling? Anybody receive any gifts? Anybody get to eat a real treat?

I wore my aquamarine pendant, pear shaped aquamarine ring, and my sterling silver bangle. I can't really remember what earrings I wore. All the food was delicious, but I think my favorite desert was a pumpkin cheesecake that my aunt made.

In the midst of all my preparations I managed to snag a cobalt blue spinel from a gemtrader ebay auction. In thanksgiving of that I also made a spinelicious blueberry pie!

I don't know what I love better, the fact that you won the blue spinel, or that you can make a pie that looks so good - almost no inclusions

I don't know.
I see some large dark inclusions right under the table.

I can make a few precision cuts to that pie if you'd like VL?

MMmmmmmm, that looks yummy!!!! Inclusions or not!

On Thanksgiving my mom brought over some of her yellow gold jewelry that she doesn't wear anymore and gave a few necklaces to me and my sister. So I wore a yellow gold rope choker that my mom gave me that day. As far as edible treats are concerned we are still enjoying them. My dh baked apple and pumpkin pie-scrumptious! And my ds baked my favorite PB chocolate frozen brownies. So good! And we are still enjoying the stuffing/sweet potatoes/veggies etc from our TDay feast. We sent food home with my family too and we still have lots leftover. Best part of Thanksgiving IMO is that it is the holiday that keeps giving. ;) Carb overload LOL but I really love carbs!

I wore my much-loved gold bracelet, my even-more-loved diamond-and-sapphire-bracelet and a bracelet protecting against evil eye that I bought from a street vendor in Turkey for $ 5 liras. A pendant with Lisa Elser's tanzanite and earrings with tsavorites. Since I was in Turkey for the Thanksgiving, I decided to skip the traditional turkey and ate Turkish sweets instead. Not the best diet, but what the heck, I enjoyed my trip!

That pie looks yummy :lickout: I sadly wore no jewelry at all....I am fighting with my spouse right now so I said to heck with it and wore no jewelry, no wedding rings no bracelets...nothing....I get that way sometimes :nono:

Crasru, you were gemmed to the nines for turkey day in Turkey, sounds great! VL, your pie looks IF to me!

This year it was only DH & me, so no special dressing-up; I didn't even get out my mother's sterling flatware -- too lazy to wash it by hand. Made a goose because DH isn't nuts about turkey -- BEST recipe I have EVER eaten, and so easy! I'll post it eventually -- too good not to share. Actually a turkey recipe but was great w/goose & would be super with a pork roast.

Finished off with a pie: graham cracker crust with semi-sweet chocolate spread on it, filled w/bananas tossed in strawberry jam, & whipped cream slathered over all. Had 2 pieces & we fought for leftovers all weekend. Screw the diet -- it's Thanksgiving!

I'm so impressed with the lattice on that pie crust! You are way more patient than I am, VL. Plus, it looks delectable.

I wore my sapphire and aquamarine earrings, and my AVC wedding set---which I then took off and left on the ring catcher beside the kitchen sink while our son-in-law and I were wrestling the turkey out of the roaster. I should know better than to try to wear jewelry when I'm cooking.

Since my Thanksgiving spinel arrived today, and this thread needs a colored stone, I thought I would post it in here.

The color of that blue spinel is unbelievably saturated and lovely. But I must say, finding ripe, fresh blueberries at this time of year is almost as rare as finding a spinel that pretty...Nice job!

On a related note, how do you feel when people cut and eat your beautiful works of art - the pie that is? Sometimes I get a little sad when I see something that perfect being disassembled.

Ooh, gorgeous!! Love that blue!!

A beautiful blue window into that blueberry.

I love to cut into the pies! Then I get to eat them. I had no plan to make blueberry this year, but I was at whole foods and there were these blueberries from Argentina at $4 a pint so I rationalized that while the pilgrims may not have had blueberry pie at the first thanksgiving they surely had plenty of them in coastal Mass shortly before thanksgiving! My berry pies are thickened with quick cooking tapioca since berries are more acid. I also put a few pods worth of crushed cardamom in the blueberry pies. quite amazing.

I wore my sapphire & diamond engagement ring, which was once again much admired by my family (my younger cousin said "Oh my gosh, I know I've said this before, but I want THAT when I get engaged! That exact one!"), the london blue topaz pear ring I made, and silver sphere earrings. (They're like silver ball studs but clip on, because I don't have pierced ears.)

While looking through my mother's jewelry drawer for her broken engagement ring, I found a diamond necklace. Apparently my mother owns a diamond necklace??!?? It's in 14k yellow gold, and I am pretty sure they are real diamonds (for one, they looked like them, and for two, the necklace was in the box with the expensive jewelry). I had been thinking that we might just buy my mother a whole new engagement ring rather than fixing her old one, and then put the diamonds from her old one into a necklace, but she already owns a necklace like the one I was thinking of and has apparently never worn it.

Hey, Mr. V. Lapid, you used my "evil eye" bracelet for your blueberry!
