turquoise - with matrix or without

Do you all prefer turquoise with matrix or without? Is either way "stronger"?

There are some vendors on Etsy who do turquoise with a modern look (you know, the cute little bezels and such) for those how are not looking for the southwest look (which I also love).

As you know, this is a personal taste question. For some reason, while I appreciate Persian turquoise, or Sleeping Beauty Turquoise that is that solid, unbroken color, the turquoise that I swoon over is typically from the Southwest and full of bits of other rock and such - is that what's called "in matrix"? Anyway, I love when the turquoise is also a bit greenish blue, which I've heard comes from exposure to light?

I don't know much about turquoise, but I sure know how I like it! How do you like it?

Yes, that is in matrix.

I think I prefer smaller ones to be not in matrix, larger ones to be in matrix.

I totally agree with minous. I know that traditionally turquoise that is smooth and homogenous with a texture as fine as velveeta, is admired and preferred, I find myself more drawn to the ones with variations of pattern, continuity and colors. Damelle, smoaky mountain, bisbee, carico lake, candelaria and lander quickly come to mind. It is a very personal kind of preference, but can also be ruled by style. Turn of the century Tiffany pieces with turquoise seem just to make so much sense with continuous smooth robin egg blue. Style of turquoise is as subjective as style of the piece

I prefer the smooth, Tiffany Blue, Velveeta kind, as VL so beautifully described above! I love that description!!! Then again, I have a chunky necklace that is matrix type stones and I love wearing it too (but man, is it HEAVY!)
