So, I''m trying to figure out a good way to do tuxedo vests.

There''s the groom, 1 best man, 2 groomsmen and the two dads. (The two ushers will be wearing suits they own -at least that''s the plan, but offered to wear tuxes if we asked them to.)

So, with that said, my fiance wants the black tux with a silver/platinum vest and regular tie (as opposed to bow-tie). We were thinking of having the three groomsmen''s vests match the bridesmaids dresses (a David''s Bridal color - the dresses are all the same color) and then the dad''s do black or charcoal vests.

1) Does this sound like too much going on? I guess to me it seems ok, because there will be me in white and the bridesmaids in their color, and then my fiance will coordinate with me and the groomsmen coordinate with the bridesmaids.

2) The sugguestion was made to have the dads coordinate with the moms as opposed to having a black or charcoal color, but I think it may start to look like a rainbow soon. It makes more sense to have a color for the groom, color for the groomsmen and a color for the dads (even if the moms are wearing different colors)

3) Do you think its ok to have the ushers wear their own suits, or do you think a tux would make it looks less mish-mashed?

4) What''s your experience, what did you do/are you planning for yours?

Thanks!

What color are the bridesmaids wearing? What color are the mom''s wearing. Personally I''d have all the men match and the groom can match you but its hard to say without knowing the rest of the colors.

We''re going with mainly jewel-tones. The bridesmaids are all in Navy (the MOH has a different dress than the other two bridesmaids), then one mom is wearing a rich teal color and the other a deep red (wine).

So would you have all the men (ushers, groomsmen, dads?) in the charcoal/grey color?

You psers are always so helpful, I really appreciate all of you taking the time to read and respond.

Actually thats not a bad idea. I was thinking keep all the men in the same color as the bridesmaids and keep your DF in white to match you. However, since there are so many colors maybe having all the guys in the grey color would look the best. But I think keeping the guys all in the same color would tie it together. DF of course can be different to match you if that is what you want.

What color tuxes are you planning to have the guys wear???

The tuxes themselves (pants, jacket) are all black, for everyone. The decision lies in picking the vest/tie color.

I''m also a little worried that the navy blue/black combo would make the groomsmen look like a big bruise, but I don''t know. I''ve seen it in pictures and like it, and I like the idea of having the groomsmen coordinate with the bridesmaids, but I certainly don''t want it to be visually busy.

The idea for the blue/platinum vest idea comes from the playing around with the idea of trying to stick with a navy blue/silver motif for the wedding (not really a theme... but two colors that we''re having reappear throughout the evening...)

I feel your pain, as I am going through the same saga. My FI thinks everyone (all the men) should wear balck so it does not look dated in 10 years. I want to add some color. (my BMs are wearing pink).

Maybe a solution is to have all the GM, dads, etc wear the black tux and black vest, then a different color tie? Would it be weird to have the dads, ushers, etc in a black tie, then the GM is a tie to match the BM (Maybe charcoal in your case or pink in mine), then ivory/white DF?

This is a hard decision! All of the men in our wedding are going to wear dark brown tuxes with brown vests. The only color will be in the tie... FI will wear ivory, groomsmen will wear light green, dads will wear champagne. Have you considered having the vests match the tuxes and then just do the color in the tie? I think it would look nice without having too much going on.

haha I am soooo glad i'm not the only one.

I think for me, I like the vest and tie matching. A black tux, charcoal vest and navy blue tie might be pushing it a little for me. So with me and white, my bridesmaids in navy blue, and the moms in teal or wine; and knowing they're in black tuxes, our options are:

1. Groom: Platinum/tie (he's pretty deadset on that...and I like it, so I'm ok agreeing to that!)
Groomsmen: Navy vest/tie
Dads: Black/charcoal vest/tie
Verdict: I like this combo, but worry about the blue/black combination. I laid it out on publisher
(ie. taking screenshots of the colors and putting it altogether with the moms/bridesmaids/me/etc
and it didn't look to bad)

2. Groom:Platinum/tie
Groomsmen: Navy vest/tie
Dads: Navy vest/tie
Verdict: Could look good, but I don't know if the navy with the mom's colors would work well.

3. Groom:Platinum/tie
Groomsmen: charcoal/black vest/tie
Dads: Charcoal/black vest/tie
Verdict: This is my second favorite option (after option 1 with the gm matching the bm and the
dads wearing the charcoal/black). Seems traditional and classy.

4. Groom:Platinum
Groomsmen:Navy vest/tie
Dads: coordinating with moms vest/tie
Verdict: I think this one will be too busy. 6 people and 4 colors. That's a lot going on I think...

I agree that I worry about the color looking a little dated, which is why we tried to do navy/silver. It's a pretty good combination I think, and it's a winter weddig, so I think that's good. (I hope)

ETA: I think the black/brown tux with a "pop" of a tie color looks sharp. I'm thinking for my situation it may not work as well I'm just worried a dark blue tie would just get lost with all the other black. It wouldn't really 'pop'

the brown tuxes sound fab!
