I have looked through this forum quite a bit, and it's been very helpful so far. Obviously the forums contain a ton of information, so forgive me if some of my questions have been answered a bunch of times. This is my first time doing anything with rings and diamonds, so everything I know (not much) has been learned in the past couple months.
I am looking for an engagement ring that is, in a word, twisty. I haven't been able to find many of these, but one has really stuck out for me - the Bedazzle from Mark Schneider (left). I was able to find a similar ring from Robbins Brothers (right), and both are pictured below. I'm not set on something exactly like this, but that's the idea I'm going for. So I'm open to similar twisty settings.

My goal is to stay under $3000 for the complete ring, and I have been working with Trice Jewelers in Denver to accomplish this. They sent out the pictures posted above to an overseas vendor, and they can custom make something similar for $1050 in 14K white gold. The sketch they sent me is shown below, and I am working on getting a CAD drawing as well. As shown, it's designed for a 0.5 to 0.75 ct center stone.

I would like to stick with a local store for both the setting and stone just due to convenience for servicing, cleaning, etc. I have read about the advantages and disadvantages of online vs. B&M stores, and I am pretty convinced I will be purchasing both from the same source. I haven't talked with the jeweler about the center stone yet, so when that time comes I will research online to see what the price differences are.
I of course would prefer to hold the ring before I purchase it, but unfortunately that's not how it works with a custom ring. One thing I was thinking about was purchasing the ring from Robbins Brothers just to hold it and talk about possible changes I would make with the local jeweler. Then I would return it.
I guess I am just looking for any advice or criticism on how I am thinking about doing this. Also, any thoughts on the sketch they sent me? I don't really know what to look for in terms of a good or bad design, what I would change, differences from the original Bedazzle, etc. I mainly just want to bounce ideas off someone besides me and the guy selling me the ring.
Thanks in advance!
