HI. I love your forum and website. I am trying to decide between two diamonds so I can finally get engaged. Please tell me which you would choose....and why?
Both are GIA graded, round, 0.90 carat, VS2, VG polish, VG symmetry, no fluorescence. The two diamonds differ as follows:
One is: 6.11x6.19x3.79, E color, VG cut, no culet, med-slthk girdle, 57% table, 61.6% depth, 40.4 pav angle, 35.0 crown angle, 0.7 HCA score
Other is: 6.18x6.25x3.84, F color, Ex cut, vs culet, thn-slthk girdle, 55% table, 61.8% depth, 41.0 pav angle, 33.5 crown angle, 1.1 HCA score

I think I''d choose #2 myself. I like the table size and it''s going to face up a bit bigger as noticed by the mm dimensions. But they are soooo close that it''s hard to say you''d go wrong with either. Good luck!

I'm voting #2 as well. I have the feeling that a score of between 1 -1.5 might look better in a ring. (not that I know what I'm talking about, of course). The main reason I'm voting for #2 is that I like really bright diamonds and that one seems like it'll be quite bright.

Do you have an idealscope pic by any chance?

on paper, i would not pick the 57/40.4/35 over the 55/41/33.5.
#2 is definitely my pick.

best of luck!

Everyone is choosing the second diamond. I really want to understand why though. Why is the second stone better? I thought 55 and 57 are both ideal tables? What am I missing? Isn't the E color important? The F is a low F and E is a high E.

Does anyone see anything about either stone that they don't like?

What sort of things should I look for that might make me choose the first stone instead, when I'm there in person comparing them this Friday?

the table itself does not tell you anything about the cut. yes, they are both in ''ideal'' range but it is the combination of the other angles that make the difference. the crown/pavilion combination on the first stone is not ''ideal'' and the stone may look darker overall than the second. when you are comparing them, don''t get caught up in trying to tell the difference in color and clarity. these are both clean, colorless stones. the most important thing you need to determine is, which cut (angles) perform better. make sure when you compare the two that you take them out from under the direct lighting and observe them at different distances. try and find some ''normal'' viewing conditions in the store and compare the two. take your time and again, don''t spend the day looking at them under a microscope or face down trying to hairsplit the color or clarity.

Between and E and F color unless you are sensitive you aren''t seeing much of a difference on an ideal cut stone (at least that was my experience when I looked at them in person). As for the table...the 55 and 57 are both ideal but I (and alot of others I know I''ve read in plenty of posts) prefer 55-56 table. That being said I bought a diamond with a 57 table. The HCA score on my diamond was 1.2...not far off from your #2. If you prefer #1 then you should choose that one. Either of them should perform great. You asked for opinions on the stones and I think the 3 of us don''t like the combo of the 57/40/35 over the other...that''s a choice probably after doing alot of reading and researching on here. You have to do what makes you comfortable and what your eyes tell you. Good luck. I''m sure either way your diamond will make you happy

Try both out in different lighting, and if possible placed in a setting (say, a ''holder''). I would bet the first looks nicer in low light.

Lucky you, your actually going to be able to compare the 2 diamonds side by side with your eyes. On paper, it looks like #2 is winning out in this post. I think it would be very interesting to view the diamonds side by side without knowing which
diamond is which. Please let us know your selection and why.

I saw them both side by side. While I could barely see the difference between them, it did seem that the F with the 55 table was a bit more sparkly and it seemed to me the spread was noticeably larger. Thanks Guys. I am having the vendor send the F/55 table to an appraiser.

congrats chris!

I''d vote for the F, too, so glad to see you are having it checked out.
