Ultrasonic cleaners and gold

Hello everyone - I have never owned an ultrasonic cleaner, but I am considering a purchase of one. I know not to use this type of cleaner on pave diamond work, heavily included diamonds, and many semi-precious stones. Thus, my question is whether the ultrasonic cleaner is completely safe for 14K and 18K gold jewelry without any gemstones? I have several hollow gold bracelets and gold neckchains, and I just want to be completely sure that the rapid vibration of the ultrasonic will not cause unnecessary friction and weaken links or clasps. Thank you.

Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks again.

I think an ultrasonic cleaner would be perfectly fine for your precious metal jewelry (gold, silver, platinum). I just got one a couple weeks ago and have used it on most of my fine jewelry with no problems. Here's a link to the one I got: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/Brookstone-reg-Ultrasonic-Jewelry-and-DVD-Cleaner/1018491010?Keyword=ultrasonic+jewelry+cleaner It's on clearance, it has multiple time settings (90 seconds, 3 minutes, 4 1/2 minutes, 6 minutes), it has 3 levels of cleaning intensity (use level 2 for jewelry), and it takes up very little counter space. You can use plain tap water with no chemicals, but I have been adding a few drops of dish soap to the water since I have to use lotion pretty frequently on my hands during winter. I have used mine twice so far; plan to use it once a week on my "everyday wear" pieces (e-ring, wedding ring, diamond earrings, diamond bracelet) and I will use it as needed on other jewelry pieces.
