In a similar thread in the colored gems department I mentioned a 1.5ct radiant with an I1 garnet crystal about 18 months ago. Grant who I loaned it too lost it in his unbelievably cluttered lab.
He found it and here is another photo - one inclusion seen through various facets:

I think you might tire of it after a while

Sorry - thought it was a deep oldish cut - its a rose cut - ignore me and have fun :-)

Now that you mention it I see how it looks that way specifically at that angle! I’d hate an OEC like that!

I like rose cut earrings in theory but haven’t tried any in person, especially like these where two rose cuts are layered on top of each other

I’ve always been quite curious about Kataoka’s back-to-back rose-cuts too! I wish I had a chance to see them in person. I did save the IG post below that illustrates how this setting is thought to alter the pattern of reflected light. Maybe the pros here have some additional insights into how this unusual setting affects the appearance and performance of these stones?C5C5EA8D-4DA1-455C-B233-24E1E2510395.jpeg

This is fascinating. Would love to learn more about this idea.

I’m not sure how Kataoka do it, but there are definitely creative ways you can set rose cuts to make them look like full cuts. I’ve seen examples at a local jeweler’s and unless you look really closely, they look like full cut stones. When I asked the jeweler how he did it, he said it was a proprietary foiling and setting technique. Ive seen foiled rose cuts before, but they looked nothing like what he’d achieved. Would love to learn more about this!

Interesting.
Tolkowsky's study published 103 years ago essentially analysed a crown seperately from a pavilion and plonked one on top of the other (with no girdle which is why he ended up with 53% table size - add a slightly thick girdle and the table size needs to be about 57%).
I am not seeing the same level of science her though?

This is so cool. One day I must visit their store in NYC! Or gosh, maybe in Japan! ::)
