elegant didn''t you post about having some issues at work w/ the school and email? Maybe they are sending you that information that you discussed in writing, and are sending cert mail to make sure you received it???

Am I the only one that finds this sort of silly for lack of a better term?
_____

Nope...I could not imagine just trying to ignore it.They will find a way to get it to you someway, even if you don't pick it up and it is important.

Well, you know you aren''t being served. They have to send someone for that.

Where I work, we send certified letters if: we have to notify a customer and prove that they received the communication, we are notifying a customer about a returned check, we are complying with the COBRA laws by sending an ex-employee their insurance continutation paperwork via certified mail.

Would any of those scenarios be something you might expect to receive?

Yes, but I am scared to get it...ignorance is bliss, right?
But you''re not very blissful right now, are you? Not knowing is only going to stress you out more. Open it up, find out what it is and then deal with it rationally.

Hope it''s nothing to worry about!

I KNOW I''m being silly - I am a major dork!

Uh, usually COBRA info is sent separately, not by a law firm...

It could be because I got a pink slip, but why send it certified? Yes - for their records...

I know I''m screwing myself over and wasting time...grrr...

Mercy! I just can not see why any law firm would want to hunt me down...that is what is freaking me out. It isn''t junk mail, etc... I got fired and didn''t do anything - I did not deserve it. Now I am getting some crap from a law firm and I have no idea why.

Has this happened to anyone else?

If you were recently pink slipped, this could very well be something related to your former employment. Not necessarily something bad, okay?

Just because you were sent a letter, it doesn''t automatically constitute harassment on the part of the sender, does it?

Relax. Chill out. And get thyself to the post office and pick that puppy up already. I know you''re a girl, but grow a pair.

We''ve gotten a certified letter from our HOA before.

Gotta love DH!

I really do not understand the hesitation at all. A certified letter is just a way to insure the recipient receives the letter. I promise, if someone was going to arrest you or something, they''d send the police! I would think it is probably documents related to your loss of job. If it is Cobra health insurance, for example, you''d be pretty silly not to want to look into that, because health insurance is a GOOD thing to have!

I just went and picked it up...

I told you guys everything was going to be fine...

Thank you for persuading me to do it and telling me how ridiculous I am...

It''s pink slip stuff. THANK GOODNESS!!!

Okay Elegant, don''t be such an idiot next time. Lesson learned.

I have serious authority problems. I never want to get into any kind of trouble. I''m lame and boring.

Thanks everyone...

This cracked me up--you make it sound like you were afraid you were going to sign for this letter, open it, and have a SWAT team spew out of the envelope to take you down in a blaze of gunfire or something! A little bit of trouble on occasion is good for you (it''s training for when big trouble rears its ugly head!), so I personally think you should blow off all this stress and worry for a night, grab some girlfriends, and go find yourself a little bit of trouble to get into.

Seriously, I''m glad you went and signed for it and gave yourself a bit of peace about the whole thing. Now you can enjoy your weekend with no scary envelopes looming!

I tell you what this will all do for you: it will make you stand up for yourself (gently, but firmly) at the start of your next job. Everything will be crystal clear from the get go. You won''t let people take advantage of you and you will put fires out at the beginning.

I''m sorry you''ve had to suffer so much from this job, but I have a feeling that you will thank your lucky stars you went through all this because it will lead you to something wonderful.

Glad the worry is over. Time for a beer and a movie.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I;ll try to stop being suck a scared little monkey. After dealing with this principal this year, I shouldn''t be afraid of anything. Lots of experiences...lots of learning experiences that will make me much wiser.

I try so hard to live life doing the right thing and try not to get in trouble. I just didn''t want to have something happen to me or have someone try to take my money! Sue me fo who knows what...I am a worry wart, no doubt about it...

Good girl. I''ve been teaching a long time and I can tell you, what you have learned will serve you well. Hang in there.

elegant - just in case this sort of thing ever happens again....

often things are sent registered if they''re too large to be put in your mail box, or if the sender doesn''t want them bent.

i often receive registered mail, and i get excited every time....

it always turns out to be a big fat nothing

I''m a pretty asertive person, but I think fear of the unknown gets me...what a wimp!
