Update on my completed project

So a while ago I asked for advice about a sapphire engagement ring project i had: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sapphire-e-ring-advice-needed.177902/.

Basically, I wanted a diamond "wave" design for the setting and a blue sapphire, evoking the sea surrounded by little waves. Both me and my girlfriend love the sea, for different reasons :)

I got lucky enough that Jeff White (http://www.whitesgems.com/) had a suitable rough for a small round sapphire and I finally chose MDC Diamonds in NY (http://mdcdiamonds.com/) for the setting, as their swirl wave design was higher quality AND the price was cheaper than everywhere else I looked at. Things took quite some time, mostly because Jeff is very popular (and for good reason!) and had a 2 months backlog. Everything went very smoothly with both Jeff and Moishy at MDC, and the ring is everything I hoped for :) I'm glad I went with the more complicated route of doing business with 2 separate well-renowned entities instead of my first choices (which you can see in the first thread) - I got higher quality for cheaper!

Pic of the sapphire (in daylight):

Pic of the completed ring (not the best lighting, it looks much better in real life :P):

Thanks for the help I got from you guys on this forum (either directly in my old thread or indirectly in many other threads)!

Congrats on the finished ring!!! It looks lovely! The design is so fluid and elegant. Have you proposed yet? ....Any hand shots ;)

Just wanted to also add - if that pic of the stone is what it looks like in real life, that is one of the prettiest blues I have ever seen. That is pretty much my dream sapphire!!! You did so well!

What a lovely setting.

I'm amazed at the color difference in the two pics: I guess it's due to the lighting. The hand shot has direct lighting on it and the ring shot is lit from an angle. Both pretty. I'm sure your gf will wear it with great happiness.

Congrats it is lovely!

Looks nice, would love more shots! Love the setting, and what a blue in that first picture!

Love the color and the wave design is beautiful. Congrats!

Great job, but hey, that's only half the story - we need to know the ending! Come back and finish your story!

That's right, sorry for that :P Actually, I got the ring on a friday; my girlfriend was going back to Canada for 3 months... next monday :D Big thanks to Moishy at MDC for the very rapid and professional job; he got the sapphire 15 days before, and had to ship to Europe, so he made the order a priority :)

Originally I had planned to go to the mountains overlooking the lake where I live, but the weather decided otherwise - full mist, snow, grey skies, you name it. So instead we went to the thermal baths on Saturday, spent all Sunday together, went to eat to a nice African restaurant, and I proposed to her near the lake at night, under a full moon peaking through the clouds ;) She was very happy of course :)

No hand shots yet, the ring is gone for a resize, I had guesstimated her hand size and got it 10% wrong :) We plan to marry during the holidays in Canada, it should be a very small but nice wedding :)

...and? and? and?!! Did she love the ring?

It turned out AMAZING Justin!!! I love that spiral/ swirl around the sapphire - very nice!

Congratulations on the moonlit proposal! How exciting to be planning a wedding in such a short time - hope it all goes well! Where in Canada is she returning to? I'm in Ontario and just curious!

Congrats on the beautiful ring and we must be compensated with hand shots. That is the only firm of payment accepted here in CS.

Sorry it took me a while to get a good picture :) It's off for resizing at MDCDiamonds, hopefully it comes back soon enough :) The wedding is in 1 month!

That looks just beautiful, Justin! Congratulations on a job very well done and on the coming wedding. I'm sure your FI is over the moon about the ring -- I sure would be!

It looks really nice. Congratulations :)

Gorgeous ring-- I am so happy for you both!! Post pics of the wedding! (doesn't have to include faces)

Lovely! I just had a thought though - what are you going to do about the wedding band? It isn't going to sit flush with this ring unless you get a curved band.

Wow, I love the sea and waves idea behind the thing :)

Very lovely!!

That's just gorgeous! Happy wedding day!!!!

The ring is really lovely. I'd love to see another hand shot in daylight to see how the color changes...

Gorgeous coloured sapphire and ring turned out beautifully - you did well! Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding. :))

Wow that is really pretty, love that blue color!
