Gosh, I just logged on and saw all the responses to my previous post regarding my grandson here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/prayers-and-good-thoughts-for-my-little-grandbaby-please.84740/

THANK YOU all for your prayers and good thoughts! My little grandson was finally discharged from the hospital last week. The doctors still have no answers as to what made him sick. Basically they are telling us that some people are more suseptible to seizures, and that sometimes in children, a fever will lower one''s threshold for seizures. Lukah''s seizure lasted for 84 minutes

During this time he went into full cardiac arrest 4 times. The doctors had to administer massive doses of anti-seizure meds to get him to stop seizing, and used the paddles on him 4 times to get his heart going again.

They ran all kinds of tests and could not find any abnormalities, other than an EEG that showed some damage to the left side of the brain as a result of the seizure. The doctors are hopeful that this damage is not permanent, but it will take some time for him to recover. He is a little slower physically, and favors his right side now over his left, where prior to the seizure he was left hand dominant. He was just about ready to start crawling, and now he is not showing as much interest. He will be following up with a neurologist and physical therapist next week, so hopefully he will start regaining some of what he lost physically.

My son was able to get emergency leave from the Marine Corps, so he has been home with his family but he will have to go back to Texas next week to finish his training. My poor DIL is really nervous about being alone, so they flew up here today and my DIL and grandson will stay here with family until July when my son is done with training.

Again, thank you all! I was very touched to see so many responses! I guess we all hate to see others suffering, especially when it comes to babies and children!

Oh I''m so glad you checked in with an update, ImpatientOne. I have been thinking about you and your family since I saw your original post.

I''ll continue to be thinking good thoughts for little Lukah. I do hope any damage is only temporary. Best wishes to you and yours.

I hope he is on the way to a full recovery. I am glad your family will be with you, I can imagine his mom is terrified and being near you is comforting.

As I told you, my son who is 15 and a 1/2 had a febrile seizure from a spiking fever at 14 months. He never had it again. We did an EEG and it was fine, but still, I worried. Turned out to be a bad inner ear infection. We rushed to the ER, they did bloodwork and a lumbar punch. It was terrible, not as bad as what your poor little grandson went through, but awful nonetheless.

I hope that since they did not find anything that it was a one time thing. And I will send prayers that he heals quickly. I am sure he will get back to himself and be crawling like a little speed demon soon!

thanks for the update, I was worried and kept checking back in to see if there was any news.

Thank you for the update :) I have been checking and thinking of little Lukah hoping everything way going well, sending well wishes for his mum and dad who are likely beside themselves really fantastic they they are staying with you.

Hopefully like DF said this is a one time thing, I am wishing and sending prayers for the little tyke to have a full and speedy recovery :) and that he is up and crawling in no time :D

I''m so glad he is home with his family. I have been looking a few times a day for your update. Its scary when any family member is unwell, but when its a baby it seems so much worse. I will continue to pray for the little one.

It sounds like a very frightening experience, I am so glad to hear he is at home recovering with his family. Best wishes that he makes a complete recovery soon.

Thanks for letting us know, I.O.

Just re your grandson favoring one side and the damage on the other: I have some friends from grad school whose baby girl had a stroke. It took a while to detect since she was so young (a couple of months? they aren''t even sure exactly when it happened). A huge amount of brain matter was destroyed, and she heavily favored one side, was slow to manage walking, half her face was almost frozen, with slow response times etc.

Well, my whole department took turns babysitting their older girl every day for months while they did therapy with the little one at home (your DIL can learn the techniques from a therapist at teh hospital I''d bet). And the thing is, since little ones'' brains have not yet fully been wired, it is remarkably easy for them to make up the short falls from the damaged or destroyed tissue by simply re-wiring themselves. This little girl was seriously disabled, and now...

...she is 100% fine. Barely a limp.

Little brains are AMAZING.

So have high hopes in that department. Hopefully this is a one time thing and if it is, the damage that was done is in all likelihood fixable.

Thank you so much for updating us! My thoughts are still with you and your grandson and I sincerely hope he recovers everything as quickly as possible and stays well.

oh gosh, ImpatientOne my heart is in pieces all over the floor and i am shaking. i typically avoid reading things like this because i don''t handle it well (have three young ''uns of my own and the worry that comes with motherhood can be overwhelming!) but seeing the update i was hopeful there was good news associated. i hope you all get some answers so that you can help him and put some fears to rest, and i hope he makes a full recovery. what a very scary time for you - i wish you and your family strength and good news in the time to come.

p.s. i hope my post isn''t outdated but i could not bear to read beyond your first (update) post. i just have to hope if you had more to add it was good and if not.... my heart goes out to you!

Thanks so much for updating us! I''m glad little Lukah is out of the hospital and I''ll keep him in my prayers--he sounds like a tough little guy.

I''m sorry to have missed this thread before. I''m glad to hear that your grandchild is better; I''ll keep him in my prayers for a full recovery with no reoccuring seizures.

This must have been terribly frightening for your family. Thoughts and prayers go out to you as well.

Thank you so much for letting us know how he is doing. We were all wondering and hoping he was doing well. Sounds like he is. So glad he will be home from the hospital.

I''m so glad that your little guy is on his way to recovery. I hope he will continue to improve, and as Indy says, little brains are truly impressive!

I am so glad you updated us!

I''m happy to hear your DIL and grandson will be coming to stay with you, and I am sending prayers for a speedy recovery!

Aw, God bless him! I am so happy to hear this!

I am glad to hear that he is getting better. Nothing worries a parent more than the health and safety of their children..

The brain is very adaptable, so I would think he will have a bit of lag time while it heals, but will be back to himself soon! It is truly remarkable how resilient our brain is. And children also recuperate so much faster than adults!

I hope he gets better really soon. :)

Thanks for the update. I''m glad to hear he''s out of the hospital and hope he has a speedy recovery.
