Basically they are telling us that some people are more suseptible to seizures, and that sometimes in children, a fever will lower one''s threshold for seizures. Lukah''s seizure lasted for 84 minutes. During this time he went into full cardiac arrest 4 times. The doctors had to administer massive doses of anti-seizure meds to get him to stop seizing, and used the paddles on him 4 times to get his heart going again.
I am so very sorry that he and you and the rest of your family have been through this trauma, Impatient One. I cannot even imagine having my child become that ill. Living through my daughter''s appendicitis was hard on me! I hope that as time passes your family will be told that Lukah''s brain will heal fully and that future seizures will be highly unlikely.

I send good thoughts, wishes and prayers.

What a trauma... Poor little guy!! I am so glad to hear that he is doing better, and hope that he continues to improve ASAP!

Impatient One, thanks for updating us. I''m so happy to hear that Lukah is doing better. He''ll continue to be in my thoughts. Stay strong.

Thanks so much for the update. Since we hadn''t heard anything, I was losing hope that Lukah was gaining ground.

Those little brains can heal so miraculously given a little time.

ImpatientOne- Thank you for the update. I feel so bad for all of your family, what an horrible experience. I cannot imagine a seizure lasting that long

Thank you so much for taking the time to post an update - I''m sure this is a stressful period for you! Just to add to the chorus of reassurance, my older brother had a severe febrile seizure when he was just about a year old. He had some paralysis of his left side, and stopped crawling, when before the fever he''d been pulling himself up to walk.

By the time he was in school, the only problem left over was that his left pitching arm was never as good as his right. (He blames the seizure. We blame the fact that he practiced more with his right arm. Your choice.)

And that was in the 1970s - so with the help available for Lukah, I wouldn''t be surprised if he''s better than ever really soon!

I am so sorry that you and your family has been going through such a traumatic ordeal. I am so happy to hear that things are looking up and I think it is so wonderful that you are able to support each other so much and pull together as a family. That will be great to be so near each other. I am sure that having each other close at hand will help a great deal.

Still praying for a complete recovery.
