Hi AG,
What type of immune system does your work focus on? Are you looking at CD4 or dendritic cells?
My degree was genetic epidemiology. My graduate school work focused on autoimmune disease and I am now doing genetics of hypertension for postdoc research.
You are right that research career is hard and under-compensated, you really have to love it to stay in it. I think you will do very well in the industry if that is where your heart takes you!
