Upgrade - with another vendor..possible?

Hi all,
Long time lurker but this is my first post and hoping I can get some advice on my situation. Thanks to all the info on this site, my fiance and I purchased a beautiful 2 carat H&A superideal round diamond from a reputable online vendor that you are all familiar with. Problem is we would like to upgrade this stone to a bigger size but the vendor isn''t really carrying RBs in the specs we like but more importantly we had a bad experience with him and do not want to buy from him ever again!!
Looking back, I wish I had purchased the original stone from the WF! Is it ever possible for another vendor to give you credit for your stone towards a purchase to theirs if it is a decent jump in price? i.e, 8-10K? Thanks so much.

First off, I''m sorry you did not have a good experience with the vendor you purchased your stone from

but I''m glad you''re going to upgrade

. As for another vendor taking your stone, I really have no idea. I would suggest calling the vendor you would like to work with and tell them your story and see what they can do. They may be willing to sell your stone on consignment or give you a fair offer on a trade in. I don''t think it''s the norm though and when working on a trade with someone other than the original vendor you will normally take a loss. It never hurts to ask though. Good luck, finding a bigger diamond sounds fun

So sorry you had a bad experience but all is not lost. You have a stone that is in high demand right now size wise and an H&A. I'd call WF and Bill Pearlman and see what they say. Good luck!!!!

Leave it half burst until you ask... it doesn''t cost anything to ask, right ?

I would ask the vendors, not us.... only they could tell you if they would consider it. If it''s a desirable stone and they could move it, they may consider it.

Yes, it is possible. I am currently evaluating whether that makes sense for me.

I wrote a couple emails out to the vendors I would like to work with and one responded very quickly and positively.
(By the way, I called WF and I was told "no" and I did not pursue it. Maybe you need to ask to somebody in charge. I talked to the person who answered the phone.)

I am also looking at stones at the B&M where I bought the original.

Here''s the deal:
It looks like I can get more $$ trade-in if i go back to the B&M, but there is also a battle of the wills. I want to stay with a one carat and upgrade color & clarity. The B&M wants to sell me a bigger stone and convince me that the J color is the way to go, no one can tell the difference, blah blah blah. So, you have to deal with the friggin'' salesperson at the B&M. But they do have lots of nice stones to look at.
Last time, I ignored the firggin'' salesperson and I got what I wanted, so that is do-able.

If the internet vendor listens to me better and produces the right stone, I will buy from him. Plus, then I will have future upgrade-ability with the internet vendor, which is a plus. I am taking a loss, though, by switching vendors. I''d guess I am losing, hmmm, $800- $1,000 or so, by switching. That''s on a nicely cut, one carat, J, I1. $1,000 is not peanuts.
But I am open to it if I can get exactly what I want.

I also agree. You should definately ask WF b/c no one can give you a straight answer other than the actual company you want to purchase form.

Generally however a seller will purchase a diamond form you for less than you paid (from about 1/2 to 3/4 of the purchase price), however, given that it is H&A, a 2ct, and you want to significantly upgrade, it may be enough incentive for a company to redeem you for close to full price.

Oh and also call Goodoldgold see what they say as well.
