Hi All,

I came across a diamond that I think might be just what i'm looking for, but i'm not too familiar with the impact of these types of inclusions on it and would really appreciate your opinions. Please see the specs and tell me what you think?

Carat Weight: 2.01 carat
Color Grade: J
Clarity Grade: SI2
Cut/Polish/Symm Grade: Ex/Ex/Ex
Measurements: 8.26 - 8.28 x 4.86 mm
Depth: 58.8%
Table: 61%
Crown Angle: 32.5°
Pavilion Angle: 41°
Girdle: Medium, Faceted (3.0%)
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
COMMENTS: Additional pinpoints, twinning wisps, and surface graining are not shown.

HCA: Light Return Very Good
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Very Good
Spread Excellent
Total Visual Performance 1.7 - Excellent within TIC range

I was told the diamond is pretty much eye clean except for a medium black inclusion in the pavilion which reflects in the corner of the table, a medium white inclusion in the crown near the girdle, and 2 small feathers in the table. The medium inclusions are visible to the naked eye but I was told that since they are towards the girdle/pavilion, they can be hidden with a prong. Unfortunately there aren't any pictures of this diamond, but, there is a pretty flexible return policy that would be worth it if this diamond has potential.

What do you all think? If your opinion of this diamond is negative, would you rate this one better? Please help! Short short deadlines on these and I'm really confused :(

What was wrong with the last one?

This one needs to be really tight to make it work. Got a picture?

There actually wasn't much (that I could figure out) wrong with the last one except black crystals possibly reflecting or appearing to the naked eye. I seemed to have missed the wave of PSers because I didn't get too much feedback and continued to confuse myself -- thus came across this one.

Do you think both of these stones have some good potential? Or am I just picking the lesser of two evils?

Unfortunately, no picture -- that's the rough part. Can you explain what you mean by this one needing to be "really tight"?

Minimize deviation of angles from the average. Basically, small variance.

I know you've said that you have a really short timeframe but are you SURE you want to buy a stone without seeing a picture of the actual diamond?

The vendor gave you a decent written description of the inclusions, which is helpful, but are you sure they can't send you any enlarged photos so that you can see them for yourself? Also, I'm sure you've read about ASETs & IS on this website, so could the vendors provide those as well?

I'd just be really concerned about making this type of purchase without being able to "see" it.

I wouldn't consider any SI2 without magnified images. This one doesn't sound eyeclean enough for me, and I don't like the low crown angle. I'd be looking at SI1's especially if I couldn't see images (actually I wouldn't do less than VS2)!

Not having a picture was a pretty big concern for me as well, the only reason i'm considering it is because the seller has one of the best return policies i've seen -- they pay for return shipping as well....and i guess i wonder, what if it's one of the fantastic ones?!

In general though i'm wondering, have you seen stones with these types of inclusions marked on the GIA report? Does this usually appear eyeclean? Or does it cut through the brilliance? I'm pretty new to seeing feathers and whatnot, so i'm not totally sure how it will appear.

I looked online and it seemed that the crown angle technically fell into the "ideal" range -- the lower end but still in the range. What are the negatives to a low crown angle? lower brilliance?

So I did the unthinkable...I ordered this diamond without seeing images beforehand. I knew the risk involved but since return shipping is free, I thought who knows, it might be worth the risk..

So I'm scheduled to get the diamond tomorrow but I got idealscope and an image of the diamond today....I'll find out how eye clean it is when I see it, but the gemologist report is stated above.

I may have seen too many h&a idealscope images bc I'm not sure what to make of this one... Is it a bad picture? A bad diamond? The diamond scored under 2 on the HCA so I suppose I just expected a little more clarity than this... Those with more experience, please advise.

And here is a picture of the diamond. Do these inclusions match the gia diagram above? i was so surprised by these inclusions that im also wondering if they sent me the wrong picture? I was just expecting feathers not black inclusions.... But i AM relatively new at this.

Please advise.

You should check if half the diamond goes black like that up close....

I would send it back, but you are the ultimate judge.

HCA under 2 doesnt mean it is good, it only has the potential to be good... if HCA<2, you should follow up with pics, IS, and trusted vendor opinions.
