It''s not for a while yet, but in march, we are going away! front runners are
Caneel Bay, Little Dix Bay, Parrot Kay, Bermuda or Hawaii...I''m very excited!!!
They all sound like winners to me, except I don''t know where the first 3 places are!! haha

"Ladykemma - which countries were you able to visit? Travelling is always extra fun when someone else is paying for it!"

yeah, i had a "moment" when I found out what ordinary people were paying for airfare, etc.

we lived in london, and saw most of the historical sites up to york. Northern england is what''s missing, I really want to see the durham cathedral.

Please tell me about your plans mmm!!! Is it planned for March for any reason in particular? I will be 40 in March, so I will be hopefully going on a fun trip too! Where are Caneel Bay, Little Dix Bay and Parrot Kay?

Hey hlmr, definitely come visit Ireland. Its a beautiful country especially around Kerry and up west around Mayo. Save your pennies though as Dublin, where I live is very expensive. And yes we do like to have a drink and a party

I just got back a couple of weeks ago from Tulum Mexico. Just my husband and I went. We stayed in beach cabanas....not a big resort. The cabanas are basically stick huts with thatched roofs. The beds are hung from the ceiling so they sway in the breeze. Open the window hatch and the beautiful water was only 15 feet away. We spent our days playing in the incredibly warm ocean or hanging out in the hammocks. It was blissful and super cheap. We moved around to do different beach cabanas...all were under $60. We ate dinner each night in a different restaurant on the beach. The tables were in the sand and food was fantastic. It was simple and relaxing.

We are doing the family vacation starting tonight...Wisconsin Dells. Both our kids (9 and 16) are getting to bring a friend. 4 days of the Dells is WAY more expensive than the 9 day trip to Mexico. We might take our kids the cabana style vacation in Mexico next year.

Next year for us, we''d like to go to Fiji (if I can get frequent flyer miles to work). If that doesn''t work, I''m looking into chartering a sail boat in the BVI. I''ve always had a dream of learning to sail so I could rent bareboats in the future. The charter trip with a captain would be a test to see if my husband likes it and we could learn some from him. If we do wind up liking boating, we''d do sailing school down the road for the entire family.

So many trip ideas...so little time and money.....

Here''s a picture from my Mexico trip. View of the hammocks and our cabana building.

Just south of the Dells is Devil''s Lake State Park. It''s a great place to go hiking, biking, and/or rock climbing and it only costs a few dollars to buy a parking pass.

mmm--it did have mosquito nets but we didn''t need them. The ocean breeze and the resident lizards took care of the bugs.

ep--thanks for the info on Devil''s Lake State Park. Now, if only I can tear the kids away from the go-carts and water parks....

I agree about Ireland! Out of all the countries I''ve been to, Ireland ranks in the top 3 (and on some days, if I think back enough, it usually takes the number one spot.) I''ve never had a vacation quite like it, and it was all due to the people. Slainte!

we already did our big vacay this year:
Flew from Florida to Boston for a week, then to Seattle for a week. visiting family, etc. not as much fun as a REAL vacation. last year we spent a week living it up in Key West. I want to go back so badly- I love it there!

ID - what an amazing picture......looking at it, I felt like I was right there with you! Glad you had such a great time!

MMM - thanks, I look forward to the links. I''d love to get some new ideas for down south!

PF - Key West is another place I have never been and would like to go! I hear the sunsets there are just amazing. You know it''s a fun place when people go back time and time again, as they seem to with Key West!

oh ID your beautiful picture gave me some ideas....do you have any websites or more information I can check out on the places you visited?? we love beach hut kinda things...it reminds us of Tahiti!

Island Dreams...I am currently obsessed with checking out Tulum!! I found a fabulous looking place...but I was curious about where you guys stayed and what you thought of each place you visited. Do you recommend 7 days at one or moving around like you did?

The place we found (
http://www.ecotulum.com/newsite/index.html) has three sister 'resorts' where you can choose your type of feel/accommodations, one is totally rustic on the beach, tiny cabanas and no electricity; one is more middle range (we like this one) with electricity but still very affordable; and then one is more luxury resort cabana type with all the trimmings. Anyway...what was yours like? What did you do during the days when you were there? Just lounge or check out local stuff?

I would love to hear more!! We were considering going to Puerto Vallarta this fall for a week, but after checking this out...it really is intriguing to us and looks beautiful. We prefer to be 'away from it all' sometimes and this really reminds me of Tahiti which we are dying to return to, so maybe this can be an interim fix and a way to get mango margaritas on the menu DAILY!

We are going to Maine for a weekend--was his dad''s engagement present to us. It should be nice.
