Your moms changed your anniversary? How does that work?Date: 2/4/2008 11:51:44 AM

No proposal for me, but it is our 1 year anni (used to be the 18th, but our moms changed it) so we''re going out to the same place we went last year. It''s this awesome place with blown glass chandeliers everywhere. Really swank-ay.And I got him a poesy ring, thanks to sandia for the idea!! A mushy saying in French, since we''re both from Quebec originally. They''re kinda thin, so I hope he likes it...
You''re welcome! I loooooove posey rings!Date: 2/4/2008 11:51:44 AM

LOL, yes. That was our actual first date, so they thought it should be then, not the 18th, when we decided to be ''a couple''. We were like, whatever. 14, 18, same diff. Our moms have known each other for over 10 years, so they could do that? ...I don''t know.Date: 2/4/2008 11:53:46 AM

It is! We''ve been wanting to get a new (nice) chef''s knife for a while, so we''re really excited about it, especially since we cook all the time. We also have the 9'' classic bread knife and like it a lot, although we''re a bit unclear on how to sharpen a serrated blade!
Other knives on the upgrade wish list are a couple of paring knives, a carving knife (that one''s for me--I like roasting things), and maybe a boning knife and a cleaver (again, for me--if I wasn''t around, Kris would probably be mostly vegetarian).

I can''t believe I''m not the only person getting a chef''s knife for Valentine''s Day! I''m expecting to get an 8'' Shun chef''s knife to go with the paring knife I got last year. It was a total surprise last year, but my bf made a huge point of the fact that it was the first part of a set, and I would be getting the next part this year, etc. It was a really adorable way for him to start a conversation about marriage and the future. He got a lot of flack from his family about his ''bad'' choice of V-day present, but I loved it!
I never thought he would propose on Valentine''s Day, since he''s very much into quirky surprises. But when we talked with our jeweler about the timeline for having a setting made and found out that we won''t have a ring until March, he said that I''d messed up his plans. Apparently he''d planned to put my ring in the knife box.

Awesome! My 10 inch Chef''s knife is named Pablo. I''ve spent a good number of hours with him because I got him when I went to culinary school many moons ago. I also have a boning, utility, paring, and serrated bread knife. For Christmas BF got me a 7 inch Santoku, which I''m thrilled about and use almost all of the time. They''re all the Wustof Classic, and it drives me nuts to have to use my other set of knives (from a different culinary school)but I tend to avoid using my Wustofs because I''d rather bang up my other not as cool set.
As for sharpening the serrated blade, I''ve always been told that it shouldn''t really ever need it but if it does, you have to get a professional knife sharpening dude to do it. But I''ve heard horror stories about people getting their knives sharpened by ''professionals'' and having them come back as knife stubs.
So are any of those that you mentioned going on your registry when you guys get engaged?
P.S.: this is Pablo, he''s got my named engraved on him, so thats why he looks all smudgy. Sorry for the mini thread jack!
I had to respond to this, because for some odd reason, it reminded me of a way-back memory that made me laugh out loud here at my desk. It''s Monday and I am on PS at work because I am very bored. Anyway:Date: 2/4/2008 1:35:50 PM

There will be no proposal for me on Valentine''s day but we are doing something nice. We are making a really nice dinner and drinking one of our favorite bottles of wine from one our trips to wine country and we are making a special chocolate dessert using another one of our favorite wines from one our trips. We are also watchign ''The Princess Bride'' which he picked. I''ve never seen it but he says its good. So even though there won''t be a ring, I''m still looking forward to a romantic night wiht my man.
What''s a whoopie pie?Date: 2/5/2008 5:06:21 PM

I don''t think we''re doing anything this year. Gosh, I sure hope not considering I took it to heart when he said he didn''t want to celebrate because he couldn''t get me anything decent this year. I sort of spent the money I would have used to get him a big gift on my new GPS
I''m not completely heartless though, I will stop at the butcher on the way home and get two nice fillet mingons and prepare him a wonderful dinner. I''ll probably get him some of his favorite whoopie pies again this year (they have to be shipped to us but they are soooo worth it!).
If he proposed, I''d fall over. It would have been the best cover-up known to man!
