Yes I''d like to know what a ''whoopie pie'' is too, please.

We aren''t even doing anything for Valentine''s. Unless I do something for us, that is. But I''m not bitter.

I learned all about Whoopie Pies when I lived in Maine! It''s a giant glob of frosting-like filling sandwiched between 2 pieces of a special chocolate cake-like halves. They are To Die For! I know there are variations on the filling but that is the classic style. YUM!

As for me, I definitely don''t expect an engagement on V-D. I think we''ll just have dinner at home! I''m going to get him a gift certificate from his fav bike store. Woo-Hoo.

Thanks, ktdid.

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I''m hopeful V-Day will be the day!

We''ve been together 7.5 years and he hasn''t felt ready until recently. He originally said we''d be engaged by the end of 2007. but he kinda waited until the last minute...like mid-December...then we had a family member on each side pass away 1 week apart over the holidays, so it just didn''t feel "right".

We decided push it back a bit so we could get through the rough patch with each of our families. Our new deadline of March 7 is rapidly approaching...30 days! I do know we are having dinner on V-day somewhere nice, (he won''t tell me where). Then I noticed yesterday that he had a website minimized on the computer. The site was for Yellow Rose Carriage Co. a local company that does romantic horse drawn carriage rides through certain parts of our city. It was open to their Valentine''s Day Specials. I''ve always wanted to take one! He hasn''t mentioned the carriage ride, so I know it is supposed to be a surprise.

Even if it doesn''t happen on V-Day, I know it will be in the 3 weeks following V-day, but here''s to hoping he doesn''t pass up a great opportunity! But I am feeling quite relaxed and enjoying the home stretch! Good luck to everyone else waiting

Oooh sprinkling lots of fairydust for SarahLovesJS and nessvan!!!

No proposal for us on Valentine's Day, we won't even be together. Awkward little problem with BF's job being 150 miles away

But I did get him a great gift that I know he's going to love. I can't post it here as I'm afraid of him lurking and finding out

He says he's got me something that's actually for the both of us and that I'm going to be over the moon. I'm completely stumped!

Nope, not for me, we''re still in the process of setting a diamond he inherited (fun!) and haven''t even made any decisions on that yet. Hoping that process will be moving along soon though, I told him I just want to be engaged sometime this year and he told me it wouldn''t be quite that long....

DBF is very sweet but not into holidays, mushiness, etc. Last year I told him he "didn''t need to do anything big" since we were dating long distance and wouldn''t be seeing one another, I didn''t want him to think he had to buy me jewelry or something. So he didn''t do anything! Not even a phone call or card! Well I was quite upset about that, and you''d better believe I had a huge bouquet of roses on my desk the next morning. I told him he didn''t have to do that, all I really wanted was a card, or calling to say I love you, just SOMETHING! He was so shocked, he told me people had been asking all day what he was going to do for me and he said,"no, she''s so cool, she gets that it''s a dumb holiday and told me I didn''t have to do anything." Apparently he stopped listening before the end of my sentence!

So this year, now that we live in the same town, I told him he REALLY didn''t have to do anything EXCEPT a card. I asked him if he wanted to do anything, but we agreed that dinner out (where we live, at least) on holidays is usually expensive, a fiasco, and not very good. So I''m going to cook a nice dinner (probably not til Friday, as I have a filing deadline Friday and will likely be working late Thurs. night) and I put him in charge of dessert-- we have several fancy bakeries so I told him he could pick something up or make something his choice. It should be nice and relaxing.

I''m kind of happy that I know it''s not time yet, as I want to be surprised and I think if I thought it would be on Valentine''s Day, and then it wasn''t, I''d be really disappointed.

Good luck to all of you who think it might be the day!

no ring for us, unfortunately my bf works at a nightclub and vday falls on ladies night which is also when he usually makes the most money bartending. luckily for me, my good friend''s bday is on vday and she is single this year so we are gathering the girls up to go dancing that night! at least ill still have a reason to dress up pretty :)

BF and I couldn't wait until next week for presents, so we exchanged last night. Haha! He got me a beautiful ring with an alexandrite (my birthstone) emerald cut in a split shank. Mmmmm it's so pretty.

Hmmm...so we aren''t big Valentines people at all (mostly me-he doesn''t really like holidays in general) and he''s getting me a blue silk pillow and I''m getting him a stapleless stapler--which he has no idea about! Yay!

Ok I just had to share it with someone!

I'm from Connecticut and agree that they are evil little saucers. My mom used to make them and they are soooooooooooooooooooo good! Here's the recipe. They're super-easy to make:

Chocolate Whoopie Pies

4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup cocoa
dash of salt
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup warm water
2 tsp.vanilla

Preparation:

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cocoa and salt; mix well and set aside. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, shortening and eggs. Beat for about 2 minutes. Mix the dry ingredients with the egg mixture. Add the milk and warm water and beat at medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the vanilla and beat again until the ingredients are thoroughly blended. This batter is for a cake like cookie. Bake as drop cookies. Drop by rounded tablespoons full onto ungreased non-stick cookie sheets. Bake in a preheated oven at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes or until the center of the cookies spring back when lightly pressed. Remove from the cookie sheets and cool a wire rack or white paper towels.

Filling:
2 egg whites
2 tsp. vanilla
4 T. flour
4 T. milk
4 cups confectioner's sugar
1-1/2 cups vegetable shortening

Beat the egg whites until stiff; set aside. Combine the other ingredients and beat very hard for several minutes at high speed. Fold in the beaten egg whites. To make the whoopie pies - Spread a generous amount of filling on a completely cooled cookie. Top with another cookie. Wrap each whoopie pie individually in plastic wrap.

I know for a fact that it WONT be Vday cuz my SO is outta town til the 24th...BUT...he did make a jokingly comment bout the 1st weekend in March at a St. Pattys Day parade (hes VERY I rish) BUT i think its only a SLIGHT chance there cuz i KNOW he doesnt have the ring YET and we were planning on going together to see the semimount i want. He knows my heart is PRETTY set on that mount, so with the time crunch factor the only way hed be able to pull THAT day off is if he ordered it online then had the stone set. So IF NOT at the parade...i THINK Pattys Day! ::fingers crossed::

No rings this Valentine''s Day, and that''s 100% certain.

I may still get a surprise, though. We decided on some Red Wings tickets as a joint gift (HEY HEY HOCKEYTOWN! Woohoo!), but BF mentioned he''d like to get me something else too for everything I do for him. I have a few cards for him already, and I''ll probably make him some of his fave cookies.

I have no idea even when my ring will be done so I''m going to say no to V-day but hopefully it will be as soon as the ring is done!

Well, as expected, no proposal, but we did have a fantastic V-Day. Kris got a bottle of our favorite champagne, made reservations at my favorite Italian restaurant in town and got a fantastic bottle of local Pinot Noir (his and my favorite kind of wine!) to bring with us. It was really fun. Plus, since the restaurant wasn''t charging anything above normal for the holiday, it wasn''t off-the-wall expensive. I love my man.
