Anybody want to share what you are getting your hubbys for VDay? We typically don''t go all out on this holiday. I am going to make a special meal and a dessert....but he made mention of a gift, so I wanted to do something little like around $50 or so. Anybody have any good ideas? Thanks!

A nice wallet, a giftcard for video games, nice shirt, gym clothes, skincare produts? I guess it really depends on the type of guy you have, likes sports, likes to gamble, likes to read, etc.

We won''t even be together for VDay this year.

I would love a repeat of what I got last year: fresh strawberries hand dipped in dark and white chocolate with champagne on the side! Dreamy, and not too unhealthy either. He made them himself too.

I would vote for a nice dinner and dessert too, instead of exchanging gifts. Some years I get jewellery, some years I don''t. Jour de mas Vie!

Yeah, we typically just go out for a romantic dinner or something rather than any kind of gifts, but we are getting our 3 year old some valentines books and cookies, so I wouldn''t want hubby to feel "left out" without a small gift to open. Skippy, I like all of your ideas. I''ll have to go shopping this week and see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Ahh, thanks! That is sweet of you to want both your men to not feel left out

We don't go out for Valentine's day so sometimes I just get him a really cool pen or office goodies, mug, favorite cookies and coffee, just silly fun things. How about some grilling gear for the barbecue or a nice framed picture of your lovely family? Happy shopping

My husband and I will be together since we are both off work that day, but we have 3 small children and I doubt that we will be doing much of anything. He is a sweet tooth, so maybe I will get him some candy. I actually did pick up a card yesterday, so I am a bit more ahead than usual!

We are going out for lunch at a nice place. I will probably get him a card and some chocolates, since I will getting a little something for my mini valentine!

HI:

My DH is a chocoholic. So it is Callebaut for him. Bath bombs from Lush for my son. We end up going out for a great dinner with our dear friends--her BD (end of Jan) my hubby BD (3rd week of Feb) and VD all together.

cheers--Sharon

Callebeaut - that is what dear hubby is getting. And the baby - okay, its really for mommy!!!

Sharon, have you made reservations already? This city is crazy. I tried booking Divino''s for lunch, and the only time I could get was 1:30!!!

We are going into NYC for a dinner event, on Tuesday. I come home Wed and leave again Fri early morning for New Orleans with my 12 year old for the All Star Weekend. So, the 14th, kids have hebrew school (and a test!!!!) and there is just nothing I really need to do that night. It is a school night and tough to get a reservation, and since originally I was going to be in New Orleans Thursday (til a school event here that day prompted my son to want to leave the next day)...I am not too upset. We will have Tuesday night so that is great. I do not normally give him much at all, he is not big on V day, but I am always open to gifts and have dropped some big hints!

Well, I think my imminent purchase will cover Valentine''s, my BD in March and anni in May!! LOL

I bought DH some new casual pants, and plan to make him a yummy dinner with a chocolate dessert.

HI:

After years of "that" (or making res''s a month in advance

), we make our "date" after the actual day. Hey I can drink champagne ANYTIME it doesn''t have to be the actual day for us....exchange cards, eat the candy, get a smooch, and go out later! We''ll eat at Alloy this time; have you been there?

cheers--Sharon

Hi steph!

35.gif
How are you?

Last year''s V-Day was a HUGE disaster, so I decided to be proactive this year...

I got tickets to a concert of a country artist my FI loves, which we already went to in January. We had a lovely dinner and then stayed at the hotel overnight out of town a few weeks ago...he LOVED it! (Minus the chains being the wrong size and getting stuck in the snow on the way home...other than that, it was SPECTACULAR!)

31.gif

Since he made no V-Day plans last year

38.gif
, back when I made the concert plans, I also made reservations at our favorite restaurant for Valentine''s night, which after letting him know I had made early V-Day plans for him in January, I asked if I should make reservations in advance this year and he thought that was a GREAT idea!

However, I emailed him last week reminding him about our plans for the 14th, but of course he hasn''t checked his mail, then when I left tonight I reminded him I would be back on Thursday...he was like, "Why?" DUHHHHHHH...I just don''t think he will ever remember special dates, no matter how hard I try! Oh, well!

Such is life, huh? At least I know I will have a wonderful slab of my favorite prime rib and a lovely bottle of our favorite wine at my favorite restaurant with my favorite guy...I''m looking forward to this V-Day so much more than my last one!

36.gif

For Thursday, just to have a little something, I got him a lovely card and a personalized oak photo cube with our names engraved on it...but I''m STILL looking for pix to put in it!

You are one smart chicky!!! I have not been to Alloy - have you? I do most of my dining in the downtown core (lunches on the firm entertaining clients), except for my fav - the River Cafe. Mmmmmmm pumpkin french toast for brunch on Sundays. Anyway, Let me know how you "Valentines" at Alloy is!

HI:

And for me it is the "ginger martini"; sounds barfy but is absolutely (no pun intended) yummy. It will be our first time dining at Alloy--it came highly recommended so I''ll let ya know...

cheers--Shaorn

His Sunday morning ritual is to drive in town and grab the Sunday paper while he''s making coffee and then relax.

So I found out that paper can be carrier delivered to his door first thing in the morning so I got him 26 weeks of the weekend paper.
He needs a travel coffee mug but also his home coffee mugs have corporate logos on them.
I''ll get him either of those choices. Maybe some nice coffee, too.

Typically we don''t do anything big on Vday, small cute things like stuffed animals, truffles, maybe flowers, definitely cards. We go to to dinner at a place we know we like and don''t have the highest expectations and typically it''s a fun time. I think once the pressure about it being some big romantic holiday is taken off (we''ve been together 8 years) then you can just have fun with it. One year I got him this balloon from some Hallmark store that was a big helium lovebug. We kept it for years folded in a drawer. Most of the stuffed animals become Portiatoys within 24 hours though hehe.

This year I was going to surprise him with a new TV but I felt so odd making such a big decision totally on my own so I pulled him into it this wkd. He heartily approved of the one I was going to get anyway and was all gung ho so we went ahead and did that...so that''s our ''joint'' gift to each other. It''s about time, our TV now has lasted us 8 years! Whee.

I got Chris a $100 gift card to the car wash he obsesses about. It''s something small, and I knew he would love it. Especially right in this time, where it starts to get nice outside and everyone wants there car pretty in the sunlight.

I''m not sure what I''m getting my Dh. I did plan to get his truck detailed for him, but yesterday when I got home, him and my son were vacuuming and cleaning the truck, so now the detailing doesn''t sound really seem appropriate.

Mara - which TV did you get? Our TV went out a few months ago and luckily we also had an LCD that we''re able to use. It''s not as big as the plasma we had, but it''s better than nothing. We''d like to get another plasma soon.

We typically don''t do much for ourselves during the December holidays and then we splurge for V-Day...this year we''ve both lost our jobs and it will be sort of a thrifty holiday for us, but no worries! I''ve saved a $100 GC for Lettuce Entertain You restaurants that we can use, plus I managed to scrounge up a few bucks to buy him cutesie boxers on sale from Gap...and I''m expecting absolutely nothing in return. We''ll be content to go to (probably) Maggiano''s Little Itlay and bring home leftovers on thursday...and maybe rent a DVD that night. I can''t think of anything better than to dine with my Valentine and come home to cuddle with him and the puppies on the couch downstairs in front of the big screen. (Now let''s just hope it all works out that way, hee hee.!)

oh MC we got one from Auction Drop, a 56" LCOS Rear Projection HDready JVC that my super techie friend has bought 2x and recommended to 2 other people who love it...they are like excellent condition floor samples (aka from circuit city, the ones that are on in the stores that people look at) that you can get for 1/3 of the price of retail and you pick them up (Auction Drop is local to us). So we're jazzed. He doesn't recommend plasma's at all and is really picky about buying LCD...and we have been to their house countless times to watch movies etc and love his TV...and didn't feel like doing research. So when one came up on AD/eBay, we got it. we'll buy the extended warranty from them most likely so that we're covered for at least a year or two.

The prices for that TV model on eBay are very reasonable! Sounds like you got a good tv. The plasma we had was on clearance so we got a good deal, but it only lasted three years, probably explaining the excellent price. The circuit board went out on it and it''ll cost $600 to fix. We''re debated buying a new TV instead.

Why does your friend not recommend plasmas? I''d like to get a second TV and put the LCD back upstairs, but we just installed new carpet, so we''re having to do one thing at a time.

I have no idea what to do.... I''m trying to figure it out. He hates it when I spend money on him.

I am not sure why he doesn''t love plasma''s but said something about technology just isn''t there yet for it...and prices are too exp for what you get. He is a huge technie guy so we just listen to what he says and typically he doesn''t steer us wrong hehe. Oh and the ones that are on eBay now are not exactly like ours, ours is a different model, a FC97 with 1080p (which he said is required) and was about $2500 retail and we got it for $900. So a huge savings!

I''m fixing burritos and tacos, jicama, and if I can find some good avacados, guacamole. The kids and I are going to hand make cards for their grandparents, aunts, uncles and their dad (and I''ll make one for him, too -- he''s my sweetie!). I got some various Hershey''s kisses and we''ll make little paper envelopes for them.

Other than that we have two field trips and two Valentine''s Day parties. It''s kind of a busy week so we''re keeping it low key.

I told him it was ok to hire a plumber to fix the leak under the sink, his leaky toilet, and to redo the shower arm pipe that he twisted wrong. I think that is a good gift for both of us.

We usually don''t go out on the actual day, but we''re going away for President''s Weekend, so that will be the big night out, I imagine.

I think that is the perfect gift. Haven''t heard one better!

We're on a budget this year - I bought a card and I'm making him "Torta de Chocolate" (my mom is a Spanish teacher and a student brought in this amazing chocolate pie recipe translated one year in her "Spanish Foods" unit - it didn't earn the student a great grade due to its lack of authenticity, but it has become a family favorite!) with real whipped cream and chocolate martinis.

But...that doesn't help you think of ideas! If this wasn't a budget V-day, I would probably buy a couple of DVDs, an iTunes giftcard, and/or tickets to a concert or something he wants to see in the spring :)

ETA: Ooooh and a new baseball cap from his alma mater - the one he wants was all sold out at Xmas time due to a bowl game (grrr) and his old one is icky!!
