We sold some stuff we had sitting around in the garage on craigslist, so we got each other an early v-day present: a new Wusthof 10" chef''s knife! It is a monster.

Then we liked it so much we went back and got a paring knife as well. On the actual holiday, though, we''re not using our gifts. We''re going out to eat (at a surprise location--he made the reservations) so that we don''t have to do dishes!

We will probably just do cards. We aren''t big into the whole buying big gifts on Valentine''s Day thing. We usually do a little something, but nothing fancy. One year he bought me potted tulips. One year he got me a little boggan/ski cap from Ann Taylor because for when we do cold outdoorsy things. I''ll get him some super dark chocolates or a shirt or a CD or something usually. Or sometimes we''ll make each other something completely sappy. He likes the made gifts the best. One time I drew out the ABC''s with one word or phrase for each letter of the alphabet to describe how wonderful he is. (sappy, right?) Another time I decorated a paper with lots of inside jokes we share. That kinda thing.

FI has been so busy and stressed with work lately, so I got him a pair of comfy slippers for house-wearing and a gift certificate for a 90 minute Thai massage.

The funny thing is, 80% of the time I think of an AWESOME gift for him, he talks about buying it about 1-2 weeks later! Oh nooooes! Hopefully he''ll hold off until v-day.

I like the home-made idea. I am sappy like that too

I love those sweet little things that come from the heart. I came back to work after maternity leave on Feb 1 last year, so on Valentine''s day, I was missing my little man. My DH sent me flowers, but the best was the card in the flowers, which I still have. It said, "Your heart-throbs think you are special - Love DH and mini man". It seems kind of lame, but I just loved it.

We are going to dinner at this quiet little restaurant with some friends. I think I''ll have some Asti Spumanti as a treat. I bought my DH some insulated cappuccino cups that I am going to fill with Dove dark chocolates and wrap some heart ribbons around the cups.

Ladypirate, the Wusthof 10” knife must be huge. We have the 8” and it chops things up really well.

I used my designer discount to buy him a very nice piece of furniture for his home office. It was a combo gift for his bday which is three days after V-day. Still, I wanted him to have something small to open so I got him a leather box that will hold his watch collection with his initials engraved on the lock.

It''s pretty big, but it''s nice to have that much power when you''re chopping. Kris also has huge hands, so I think he likes having a knife that''s him-sized.

Oooh, where did you get the watch box? Sounds like a great gift!
