I am purchasing a square cushion in a temporary setting whilst I search for my "perfect" setting.

Can anyone recommend a good jeweler in the Vancouver area who could source a nice setting for me. I am relatively new to this and a bit nervous about leaving the diamond with someone I have never worked with before to set it.

Thanks.

I would love some help with this one. Hope someone has some info.

I am curious about responses too. Not many Vancouverites on PS though. Have you tried a search? Otherwise, keep bumping this thread every couple days and maybe you will catch someone.

Will do. Have tried a search but nothing very recent yet. There must be some Vancouver guys & girls out there with knowledge/experience of good local jewelers who could work on a custom setting.

Have you considered working with a PS vendor? I ask because many people have worked with Whiteflash and Brian Gavin Diamonds on custom work and been very happy, including myself. They show you CADS and you approve them, they can show you the wax and lots of photos as it goes through the steps. Custom is a tricky thing, and the hassel of handleing things remotely is balanced in my book by the confidence that you are working with a really great company.

I am buying a diamond from GOG in a temporary setting since I am not yet 100% decided on the setting I would like. And since I am in Canada really don''t want to have to ship the ring back to the US for setting. I had hoped to wear it in the temporary setting for a period while I decide on a more permanent setting.

On a separate note, I posted previously regarding my choice of a setting. This ring is a replacement and I would really like it to work with my existing wedding band (2mm platinum band with very tiny flush diamonds). I think you replied and said you didn''t believe it would work. If you have a moment have a look at these threads and let me know what you think. I would love to know your thoughts and why you think it doesn''t work:

Thanks!

Hi soames! Here''s the info on the jeweller that my family goes to:
C.J. Angel Jewellers
1445 Kingsway
Tel 604-322-8957 or 778-371-5511

My aunt loves him and thinks he''s very talented. All his settings are hand made. My aunt has been going to him for years and has gotten him to custom make many high end settings, one of which is a euroshank ring that was inspired from Montecristo, that I will have him make it for my 76 pointer soontimes. He can source stones for you as well and his prices are better than mall store prices but not as good as pricescope unless you''re a long time customer. He recently sourced a 2.08ct D/VVS1 triple EX GIA for my aunt for 42K. I''ve asked him to source a stone for me and found that pricescope prices are a bit better plus hubby wants a stone from the cutter himself. :) Anyhow, hope that helps. Let me know if you go to see him and how it works out for you.

OK, it took me a second and I had to go find your old thread to see what you meant. Its personal preference I guess. It is an uncommon way to wear the rings, diamonds on the e-ring and plain wb, the more common thing to see is diamonds on the wb and a plain e-ring. But in the end I suppose who cares but you! Those threads you posted do look nice

I think than angeleyez wears a stack that has a diamond band and a plain band and a bead set e-ring ( not the novo but the shank is the same). I like the three stack better than the two alone. Again though, just my taste! Yours may differ.

As to setting in the US, it isn''t so bad. You send it down as a "return for repairs" basically, and they re-set it. Then they send it back and FedEx will contact you about customs. You explain that they changed/fixed the setting and the value of the goods coming back are greater than what you sent (the original value is indicated on your shipping invoice) and you will pay taxes on the difference only. BGD has a great Novo setting and the yhave done this type of cross border stuff with me and it was really easy.

Hi there, I am a fellow Vancouverite! I have a lady that made a custom ring for me. Anyway, she has also made several settings for many of my friends. I can recommend her if you like, but she does not have an actual office. She is mobile and comes to you. This may sound a little strange, well, at least I thought so, but it cuts down on the costs of the jewelry because she does not have to maintain an office. Anyway, let me know if you want her information, I don't really want to post it all on the site because I have her personal number. Good luck!

Hi!

I don't normally post, but i love to help a fellow canadian in need!
I did lots of research in my area and kept coming across the same jeweler from lots of clients and co-workers. Mininchello Jeweler's in vancouver are family owned and operated for generations. They are reputable and fantastic to work with & their work is beautiful, hope this helps. They also have a website you can check out. Go canucks Go!

Thank you everyone for the replies-all very helpful stuff.

Bling 77 & duckieluvzu-thanks for the info on reputable local jewelers. I am going to look them up and will keep you informed if I decide to proceed with either one.

Janey-thanks also and I will let you know if I have no luck with the above.

Dreamer-thanks so much for your posts. I really appreciate your input. I love angeleyez set, interesting to hear your views on that combination. Great to hear that you have done cross border stuff with BGD and no problems. I will keep that in mind too.

Such a great site and so many helpful people. Wish I had discovered it years ago!

I have a jeweller that has sized a ring for me and set a stone in my own setting. He says he does custom work and he is quite adept (my setting was VERY delicate and another jeweller in town wouldn''t even touch it lest it fall apart on her). I assume he can get other settings as well as he had to order in a new head for my ring. He works in the Vancouver Block on Granville Street (112-736 Granville). Mine Art Jewellers. His name is Mike Phu Nguyen. Phone number is (604) 685-8309.
