Vatche Felicity setting, is 1.3mm at the top too thin?

I hope this is the right section to post this as I heard ladies (and gentlemen) in this forum are the most interested in just, good looks!

I'm looking at a Vatche design setting, called the "Felicity": http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...-solitaire-engagement-ring-by-vatche-1614.htm. It's 1.9mm at the bottom and 1.3mm at the top, and has kind of a knife edge.

There's another setting that's almost identical to it, called "Serenity Collection", but is about 2.5mm at the bottom and gets a bit thinner at the top (I don't know the exact mm number at top): http://www.dvatche.com/index.php?page=collection&catID=2,19&id=158.

I'm struggling between these two settings. I'm leaning toward the Felicity but it has only 1.3mm at the top. Would it be too thin? What do you all think? Thanks.

Too thin for what? Visually, or for strength? Vatche has a good reputation, so I'm sure the setting is secure. It looks like the setting has some depth at the 1.3 mm thin part, so I'm sure it's strong enough. For me, 1.3mm is too thin visually, but there are a lot of people who love the look because it makes the diamond pop.

For me it depends on how snug I wear my rings. I don't like my rings to be very tight on my fingers, so I don't mind wearing a really narrow shank. But I wouldn't like the look as much if I wore a 1/4 size smaller... it would look too much like it was pinching. That's a very subjective preference of my own, but I thought I'd throw it out there!

I think it depends on the size of the diamond too. If you set a 2 ct diamond in a 1.3mm band, it seems like it might "break off" more easily than if the band was wider and there was more to anchor the diamond to.

Also, I think you might get more opinions if this was posted in RockyTalky.

I agree with the other posters and add that it also depends, in addition to the size of the diamond, on the size of your finger.

Exactly. 1.3mm on a one carat stone seems fine, but on a three carat stone? Probably not secure enough for me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The centre stone is about 1 carat. Finger size is 5.

I think the Felicity is fine then. The range lists up to 1.75 carats so 1 ct seems safe.

There are four points of contact on this style (donut and cathedral arms one each side) and no pave on the shank, so you'll probably be OK. Visually it's hard for me to picture such narrow connection points, though.

Go to "Report Concern" (it's one of the buttons at the top of your orig post) and you can request to move the thread to RT from there.
