Caribou,
I have tried SO many pills, and they all make me an angry fat freak.
Going off the pill was one of the best things I ever did! It was like instant weight loss. But what to do to replace it...
There''s really nothing as sure or good out there.

Well, Caribou, at least you haven''t used the shot (I can''t remember the name of it?), you''d be stuck with the side effects for 3 months, until it wears off!
OMG.. I was on that when it first came out,,, Depo Provera. My doctor forgot to tell me that you gain at least 30 lbs within the first year!! ACK!!!! AND the side effects were horrendous.. OMG... it was terrible. I felt 100% better when I came off.... Thank goodness!!

I tried the Patch.. it made me sick.... ALL the time!!! YUCK!!! I am extremely moody on the pill and I have a hard time remembering to take it all the time. But I will say that I am absoultely, madly and genuinly in love with the Nuvo Ring.

Just a note....if you are spotting between periods while you are on BCPs it could mean that the estrogen content is not high enough for your body, and thus may make the pill be less effective.

Also -- if you are taking antibiotics, it also may make BCPs less effective; certain antibiotics are worse at that than others.

I''m married, and I went off the pill about a year ago...we''re not trying to get pregnant, but if it happens it would be wonderful.

The reason I had to go off it was because I switched doctors, and the new one took one look at the form I filled out where I had checked "yes" next to "do you have migraines with aura" and told me they couldn''t refill the current progestin/estrogen pill I was on. They said there had been a recent study in which there were higher incidences of strokes in women who suffered from migraines with aura (when your vision is affected) who were on the progestin/estrogen blend pills. So they switched me to an estrogen-only pill that is usually reserved for nursing moms. The problem with it for me was that you have to take it at the same time (within 3 hrs.) every single day for it to be 99% effective. After a month of not remembering to do that, I said to heck with it, what''s meant to be will be, and we started using the rhythm method, which has worked so far. (Note: I don''t recommend the rhythm method! And I''m don''t have a medical degree, so please don''t use this as advice!)

The only difference I''ve noticed coming off the pill after being on it for about 10 years is that it took about 9 months for me to become "regular" again, and I have "boobaches" every month now!

Hi Monarch!

Actually, the pill for nursing women is a progesterin-only, not an estrogen-only pill.

I''m very happy with my decision, don''t know that my FI was exactly thrilled with what the alternative is but I told him last night, ''we''ll you have a choice, but you have to ask yourself, do you want to deal with a flaming psycho b*tich

or not??'' Not to hard to decide.

I totally didn''t know about the migraines/aura combo with the pill! Great, maybe I should say something to my doctor? I''ve checked the little boxes a million times- YES, I do have migraines.. Hm. Also, they just came out with info about the patch, women are 3 TIMES more likely to suffer blood clots if they use the patch instead of the pill! Those jimmies are sounding pretty good right now...
