Very inexpensive honeymoon, would you take it?

We stayed in a condo for a week for our honeymoon. We bought drinks and breakfast snacks to have in the condo, then you don''t have to waste extra money on every meal (food can be expensive in Hawaii!). I even bought groceries and cooked dinner for DH one night, it was fun!

I haven''t been to Maui or Cancun, but I have been to the Big Island and other parts of Mexico, and I would pick Hawaii over Mexico anyday! There will be plenty of other hotels near you in Maui, and if you want pampered you could go hang out at one for the day and get a spa treatment or whatever. I also like the idea of getting a night or two at a fancy hotel in your town before you go, or at the begining or end of the Hawaii trip.

Ok, so we're waiting on more details FI's family says they'll get back to us by Wednesday with a list of hotels/condos that are options. I do think some of them are hotels so that would be nice. I will write again as soon as I have more details..but considering this would probably save us at least $3,000..I am thinking we should do it. And what I meant by the in control of my vacations was just that I was nervous about not planning where we stayed or anything or the flight, but so far it does look like they're going to let us pick the hotel and the flight. I am trying not to get too excited because I am afraid something will go wrong or something..lol. But in the meantime, I am "cautiously optimistic!" Thank you all again for your help I will hopefully get to update soon saying we're actually going where we always wanted to go!

ETA: And thanks everyone for listing the pros and cons out. I gave the condensed list to FI as the PS opinion and I think he appreciated it!
