Too light of a sentence. I hope he gets booted out of the NFL.

I agree, I don''t think it''s long enough.

I would be very surprised if he every plays in another NFL game again. i agree too light a sentance.

Of course he would only get 23 months. That really enrages me. Seriously. Now I''m fuming.

The NFL better boot his a$$.

23 months is fine with me if during that time they treat him exactly the way he treated those poor dogs.

From what I heard this 23 month sentance if actually more than the normal sentance given... which was actually between 12-18 months. I believe this would be a good amount if indeed he is incarcerated for that amount of time. However, they do have the good-behavior rule, and he could probably be out in half the time... this would upset me. I also heard that he will be in a minimum security federal prison. Personally I don''t think he should be with high white-collar workers that make about as much as he did, and are in for tax fraud. Just my opinion though...

I was listening to sports radio when they announced it, and most of the day. The concensus seemed to be that he won''t play again. Not only becuase he messed up, but also that face that there is no way for him to maintain an appropriate training schedule in jail or to follow the new changes among offense and defense tactics among the league.

23 years would be justice... but there is no justice in the criminal system.
Im shocked that he actualy got jail time.

If he serves it all and gets his a$$ whipped every day then ok. If he is treated like Martha Stewart and serves a couple of months then it is BS.

I hope he never plays ball again. In fact, I take that back...I hope he does play and I hope his peers treat him how he treated those poor dogs. I hope he gets dogpiled and horsecollared by my boy Roy Williams. I hope when his career ends he is hurt and dazed so when he is an old man he can feel the pain in his knees.

Digusting excuse for a human being, such a waste.

Sorry for all those I offend.

Not offended at all. REALLY impressed though.

And wary (notetoself: don''tpissiwannaoff)

I predict that he will make it back to the NFL.

And be a star.

''Tis a pity.

really? pete rose can't get back into baseball and his crimes were purely financial. you really think not only the gambling (although not on football...that we know of) but just the pure acts of animal cruelty won't keep him forever out?

I would boycott the team that signed him if it happened

Haha... its ok, not many fans left to loose. LOL, jk. He left the team in a very destitute position, and they will more than likely have a new QB by the time he gets out.

And just an fyi, there are players in the NFL that have been to jail, and convicted crimes... they just aren''t in the public eye as much as a QB is.
Ray Lewis is a famous one--- http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=21491

I''m not saying I want him back... personally I don''t think it''s going to happen, but I don''t have much say in that decision. Goodell, the comish, said back in early fall that he would review Vick''s suspension once all the legal proceedings had ceased. I''m guessing we will start hearing something about that decision by the end of this week.

mrssalvo--- Yes, pete rose's was purely financial... but I believe he was assumed to have been betting on games he either played in or was managing at the time.

true..i edited my post after you quoted me to state the difference b/c I realize vick probably wasn't gambling on the NFL games and do see the difference in that respect.

also true other players have been to jail and still play/played...heck, the think 8-9 current bengals have a record

I just think b/c of the huge star he was and the "team leader" a QB is supposed to be, he'll have a long tough road with not many rooting for him. time will tell I guess.

I''d like to see him locked up in one of his own dog kennels and treated like the dog that he really is--no offence meant toward any actually dogs!!

Maximum that could be given was 5 years, he got 24 less one month served and three years probation. He claims he had depression and drug problems. What he did was so sick and cruel and the judge told him he owed an apology to so many, including all the kids who looked up to him. Not sure how the NFL will deal. I am sure he lost all of his pro endorsements. He really messed up, he had it all and tossed it away on a sick disgusting excuse for a hobby or something. Who could think to even do that type of thing, even once? Nasty. However, the NFL has murderers in its ranks and has lost some players to gun violence, so maybe if they think he repented enough they will somehow make a case for taking him back. (I am not in favor of this, just know the NFL is about the money, and if he plays well and atones to their satisfaction I could see it happening down the line. Once he has done his time, if they feel public sentiment will support it, I would not be shocked).

I agree wholeheartedly. I had a whole paragraph prepared to type here as a response but really nothing I can say will matter in the long run. I''m sickened by the whole thing and I hope that his situation helps enlighten some other ignorant fools who might still think this sort of treatment of animals is ok.

I wish they could sentence people to LIFE in prison for such a thing.

What a horrible, horrible, sub-human being

UPDATE:

More bad news for the Falcons...

Head Coach Bobby Petrino has resigned and will now be coaching for Arkansas.

What a coward. How do you leave your team with 2 games/3 weeks left in the season?!?!?

Not enough. Life would be better. He loved to tortue and kill the dogs that didn''t win. Sounds like a serial killer mentality to me. I hope he rots.

Too light indeed! He is so disgusting. It turns my stomach! I''ve written three different things and deleted them...What I''m thinking shouldn''t be said here on PS!

I agree it is too light of a sentence.

What a sicko.

He is sorry he got caught, not sorry for what he did.

If he was truly repentant, he''s put his money where his mouth is and fund an animal rescue, charity or anti-cruelty campaign. He would make the rest of his life about showing the world he understands why what he did is repugnant, wrong and vicious, and work tirelessly to be part of the solution, not the problem.

What we are seeing is a souless pig mouthing some scriptwriter''s slick words in the hope that when he is out, he can rejoin the ranks of falsley elite, overpaid athletes, and return to his mansion with its goldplated toilet and built-in pool.

Gosh I guess you can tell how I really feel...
40.gif
I work in animal rescue.... I see every day what overbreeding, abuse, neglect and most of all, human ignorance do to helpless animals, especially dogs. This whole situation makes me sick.

ETA: When you actually look into the eyes of a starved, abused dog, a dog who, depsite his horrendous life, reaches out to kiss you and wags his tail because you are patting his head....when you hold a dying animal too sick to be saved, left chained to a tree stump to die of starvation, his collar so embedde din his neck, skin has grown aorund it....when you witness scarred bodies whipped to the bone and mass gassings at shelters where people are too lazy to clean out the dead carcasses before gassing another group of helpless souls...when you see all this, you understand that this Vick thing is a nothing more than a charade.

I humbly use this space to implore people to think about how they get their animals (adopt--all breeds, ages are out there), to think about the gifts that dogs are--the seeing eye dogs, medical dogs, search and rescue--can you really believe they are just "animals"? They are gifts and deserve humane treatment and respect.

Next time you go to buy that Coach collar or $100 dog sweater, remember that this money might be donated to the ASPCA, HSUS, or any rescue, charity or animal fund... $20 can spay/neuter and get an abandoned animal into rescue, where he has a chance for a loving and actualized life. The people here have means and seem kind and generous. Please open your hearts to this cause.

Thanks.

I am amazed out the outrage people feel about Micheal Vic when professional athletes (Jason Kidd, Micheal Pittman and Brett Myers to name a few) commit terrible acts, including spousal abuse, drug and weapons charges, etc. and are simply a 5 second news story that is then forgotten. This is not to say that I don't think he should be punished, but I wish people would become as enraged about athletes, the people many children admire and emulate, hurting other humans as they are about dogs, and use their power, the almighty dollar, to stop supporting sports teams and leagues that allow such behaviors to go on with little more than a slap on the wrist.

I have had many thoughtful discussions about this with people, and I think that the Vick issue makes people more vocal (and thus appear more outraged) because animals have no voice and no choice. When an act is committed again another person (spousal abuse, rape) or "the people" (weapons charges, drugs, etc.) there is due process and an assumption of two sides of the story. With animals, there is only one side--the perpetrator''s and there is no doubt, no "he said, she said" type of thing. I think the outcry is different. Personally I think men who rape wshould be castrated and locked up for life, but it''s clear I am not running the legal system

Ditto! I love dogs to death, and have two of my own, but I have to say that the kind of hostility expressed towards Michael Vick for his crimes seems excessive- when there are soooo many other 'sickos' in the U.S who commit even more sickening crimes, but somehow noone has anything to say. I don't think it's just about dogs being vulnerable and not having a voice - what about those men who shoot their 4 and 5 year olds in the head or wipe out their entire families? Where's the outrage? Nobody seems consumed with those cases the way everyone seems consumed with the Michael Vick case. It just seems way out of proportion to me.
