Thanks for the additional gem advice and links too!

AJ, I have also been checking ''GOG'' regularly - these diamonds are pretty and reasonably priced, but again, only one is large enough for my setting, which takes a 6 mm, so the smallest I could go would be at least 5.7 mm...I will keep looking though!

I am hoping to hit the jackpot one of these days! I know ''my diamond'' is out there somewhere, LOL, it may take a long time to find it.

I don''t mind waiting a while to find the right one, which is why getting a temporary gem appeals to me...so I have something to wear while I''m waiting and saving for my diamond to show up!

You''re welcome Ara, just thought I''d put the idea out there, also for anyone else researching that

comes across your thread

btw, GOG hardly ever has *all* of their inventory posted online, so a quick email may be worth it -

Jon could potentially have something suitable in the store, or be able to source it

They also appear to have a project in the works where they will be having new stones cut

with OEC - like patterns, but top light performance - kinda like an ''ultimate oec''

If it were me and I didn''t care about whether the diamond was true antique, I would go that route for sure.

Oh I just saw your reply, thanks for the heads up! I will definitely get a hold of them to see what I can find out! I wonder if the ''new old'' cut will be more costly than an old cut diamond? I guess I''ll ask about that too!

Thanks again!

There are a few advantages of the "new old cut" versus a real old cut diamond:
1. You can order to size, colour and clarity whereas you''ll just have to accept whatever old OEC you are able to find or keep looking for a long time.
2. You are guaranteed almost ideal light performance whereas an old OEC has a higher chance of having light leakage, not so good cut, etc.
3. You are guaranteed decent symmetry whereas many old OECs tend to have an off round shape
4. No worries about an overly thin girdle that is prone to chipping whereas almost all old OECs have dangerously extremely thin to thin girdles.
